Exactly....

Besides if he wasnt traded, who's to say if he would have turned into the player he did in Chicago? Maybe it is a case of the right guys around him to turn him into a 20+ goal scorer.

- Pyzik

Exactly. They gave up a 24 year old who was showing them nothing for a 3rd, a 21 year old winger with ok potential and a AHL depth guy. Sharp bloomed and Ellison didn't it happens but that haul was fair for what they were trading at the time.

easy to blame hitch looking back considering his long-accused distaste and short rope for young guys, but you're probably not off base either. can't remember if he played wing here at all, but obviously there was a log jam of Cs ahead of him on the roster at the time.

5 goals in 22 games before the trade that season playing fourth-line minutes here. he just needed a chance and when he got it, he scored 20 goals his first full season with chicago, but definitely a late-bloomer.

sucks like hell looking back on it but who knows how it would have turned out here.

ugh, he was probably traded because he was losing ice time not to the good players you listed, but to people like stevenson, brashear, jon sim, radivojevic, brian savage. http://www.hockey-referen...e.com/teams/PHI/2006.html

Another reason I like Lavi. He's a "General" (as in military leader, not all-encompassing) sort of coach that Crims likes but also isn't afraid to trust youngsters like Hitch was when he was here.
- Flyskippy

why let young guys play when you can rely on brian savage and turner stevenson to lumber up and down the wing?

Better to waste time & energy crying about the trades that benefitted other teams. It's the Philly way.

I cant believe we are still talking about this minor trade all these years later. At the time no one had a problem with and if they say they did they are lying. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.

At least Savage's legs were the same length.

THANK YOU. That's what I'm trying to say. You can't go back and criticize a trade that you were fine with just because the guy happened to turn into a good player. That's ludicrous.

It is easy. And appropriate.

05-06 turned out to be a total waste of a season, outside of some highlight reel plays from Forsberg.

I did have a problem with it at the time....I was a Phantoms season ticket holder and EVERYONE loved him on the Phantoms, def a fan favorite. Ask any Old Phantoms fan and they were pissed he got traded.

By those standards, isn't every season without a Cup a "waste of a season"?

i did. sharp went to my alma mater, damnit, and i was pissed!!!!

an interesting tidbit here - all but 1 of the UVM Catamounts who have had legit NHL careers have won the Cup. Just not here: LeClair, St. Louis, Thomas, and Sharp. Aaron Miller was a part of the Avs as a rookie in '95-96 when they won the cup, but he didn't play in enough games to get his name on it.

LeClair and Sharp, like so many other former Flyers won their Cups elsewhere.

had the flyers beaten buffalo in double OT in Game 1 (instead of briere scoring) and wasting Esche's best performance ever as a Flyer, who knows what would have happened. i don't think of that season as a waste.

That can be said of other teams I'm sure. It stings more when it's a guy like Recchi, who won 3 Cups, all with different teams but had his best years with the Flyers.

I know they did. I just pointed out that Pomminville and Hecht were not mediocre offensive players.
- MJL

Don't you think Briere had a influence on those numbers.

Hecht points/season average after that year with Danny: 36 points
Pommer 2way game after that season kept improving but never had more than 30 goals a season since then

Leino in PHI with Briere had 53 points
Next year in Buffalo Leino 25 points

He makes wingers better offensively that are not top end or 1st line talent.
Hecht, Prospal, Leino, Pommer (Pominville is top end or 1st line talent) ....

My point was, chemistry with Danny comes from unexpected places/players sometimes. That's it ! I think we saw a glimpse of that last year while playing with Talbot for a game or two.

They won 45 games plus got to see Richards and Carter for the 1st time. That seems like a success to me.

Some are worse than others. In 05-06 they stuck with a coach they would fire a few weeks into the next season, and traded away a future all-star for a 3rd round pick and a bag of pucks. Actually, you would get more than seven games out of a bag of pucks.
