Yea, not sure where NH got Dallas out of the whole Wheeler idea. Must have too much Dupuis on the brain. |

The problem with Niskanen (whatever his perception might be), is that he is only signed for one more year and then a UFA.
NEWS ALERT: #Pens re-assign defenseman Dylan Reese to @WBSPenguins; Activate Letang and Niskanen from injured reserve http://pens.pe/YrSpGt
So... if both guys are in tonight, who sits? I would say Engelland, but Chris Neil is bound to do something stupid tonight. - rival22
that is true. i was just more concerned with the fact that not too long ago he was considered a salary dump. i really think he has stepped up though and can be a valuable puck mover for someone. if the flyers werent in our division, i think it could be a perfect fit with them for someone such as read. |

Absolutely, he could be a valuable player on many teams. I'm just thinking in terms of him as a main trade piece. We all want a player back who is somewhat of a longterm solution to a wing or whatever, but I wouldn't think that most GM's would give up someone who they control for a few more years, for an equal level player who may be gone in a year.

Agreed on both. These wild trades do come from what shero has done in the past. No one is complaining of what he has given up since aquiring roberts, hossa/duper, guerin, kunitz, neal/nisk. I said this before but not sure if anyone even had seen it. - SayWhat...NoWay
With regards to the Neal trade, Dallas was in a financial mess and needed to shed cash for owners. Gogo looked good on paper and had potential. I dont think Nisk was doing much for them at the time anyway. The Hossa trade, RS did give up a lot. The 1st rnd pick, and Esposito could have been a decent player. The other guy was a pretty decent role player. So looking back, I can see why Tangradi/TK/Morrow=Bobby Ryan, but at the time I dont think so. Guerin and Roberts were old and Rentals anyway. |

fair point. but the same could be said about a lot of guys. id be fine getting someone back with a year left. its better than a rental. |

I really don't think Ray gave up alot for Hossa. A late first round pick; a prospect in Esposito who was on the decline already and two role players, or spare parts. Dupes alone for that return was a win for Pittsburgh.

Yeah, Dallas was mess at the time, plus they just had Loui Eriksson re-sign at a big increase, and it came down to basically either Benn or Neal staying long term, and they picked Benn.
I remember reading that Niskanen was a healthy scratch, and potential waiver material by then. He really fell out of favor there. |

agreed, i just looked at the 2008 draft and we didnt have any picks in rd 1-3.. there is really noone outside the top 15 playing in nhl except for justin shultz, lindback and voynov(sp) and they were all 4th rd except lindback was 6th i believe.. our 4th pick was moon, 5 picks later was shultz.. the next yr is when RS started picking all D lol |

I dont either, but Hossa was a rental and in his prime....If the Pens go after Iginla I dont think it should be for the same but even less. He's 35 now. |

Don Waddell was recently on one of the local radio shows, and he said that Dupuis was a thrown in because Shero lost two roster forwards in the deal, and needed someone back. Waddell knew that Dupuis wasn't going to resign there as a UFA that summer, so just tossed him in to make it work for Shero.
Funny how things work out.
Speaking of Don Waddell, you gotta give Shero a lot of credit with the staff he hires. Some GM's would be scared of bringing in potential successors, but Shero has hired Waddell, Andre Savard, and Randy Sexton as scouts. All guys who have GM experience. |

thats why im not willing to throw a first or second at him... i think calgary would want young players already nhl ready not picks for a rebuild. giving them a forward like jeffrey and a D like burtuzzo and maybe a 3rd should be good.. yes I would love for them to take tk but its not realistic... plus jeffrey keeps riding the pine.. i love all the twitter posts suggestionhe slept with bylsmas wife and that why hes not play
seeing how kuni is a free agent any thoughts on if he would be dealt? if so what is he worth? |

I like Kunitz and what he's done, I enjoy his game when its a bit better, but I think he's gone depending on what Malkin and Letang demand. Orpik as well. I would like to see the Pens go after Corey Perry in the off season. No way ANA trades him when they're playing this well. I think they'll sign Getz and let Perry go. |
