I thought former NHLer Aaron Ward did a great job on TSN in Canada on Wednesday night showing clips of mundane plays from the Dallas-Calgary game, where players lifted their skates in trying to pin opposing players to the boards. It happens all the time. Just not often with the horrific result that it did with Cooke and Karlsson.

Let's just forget this incident for a second.

When did Aaron Ward become a respected analyst? I've heard Aaron Ward's name dropped more in the past 24 hours than in his entire playing career.

Thanks for cursing Saturday night, jerk.

Why don't you just shout "Gonna be a shut-out!" after Scrivens makes his first save?

- Atomic Wedgie

Why would you use the word shut-out?

Seriously, who calls for a shut-out so early on? I know we all want a shut-out, but to expect a shut-out with your main goalie out is stupid. I know Scrivens almost had a shut-out last game, but he flubbed that shutout at the end of what would have been his first NHL shut-out game.

did you even watch the replay?

What do you learn in hockey? You learn when you're going to pin someone to the boards, you put your knee in between their legs so they can't move.

Thats what Cooke went to do.

As he went to do this, him and Karlsson were going to battle for the puck, and Karlsson out muscled him and caused Cooke to lose his balance. Hence the reason why his skate came up. When he went to put his skate down, and regain his balance, it landed on Karlssons leg.

Case closed.

When Cooke is moving his foot down Karlsson's leg he is not of balance. Case closed.

Skate cuts happen.
It happened to Pa - neuf, Hall got stepped, I believe a swedish goalie die after getting his throat cut, another goalie in a N.A league had the same injury - he survived, Ben eager got injured by a skate, a caps dman a few years back was cut by a skate, richard Zednik was injure a few years back.

Just a few off the top of my head....these are the big ones....there are several minor ones that occur.

You're welcome.

Thanks for providing examples not even remotely close to what I asked for.

People are claiming that Cooke's play is a normal, common, hockey play. If it is, how come there is not even one similar example of an injury ocurring.

Pinning a guys leg with your knee is common.Having your foot around mid-calf blade angled in,and then bringing it down to the top of his achilles is not common.

Interesting question.

Which NHL player currently has the most heart? I'm gonna have to say Mike Komisarek.

- jbold

It has to be Hartikainen. It's written all over his jersey.

Wow. I can't believe I just read that..

After watching the replay, you seriously believe Cooke meant to put his skate there? Really?

I'm not sure how to feel about this.

Ward plays us well, but so do back-ups with something to prove.

Maybe this is just the post-traumatic Roloson disorder talking.

I'd be a little more worried if we were playing them at the ACC. I think the set up for these next two games is there, the Leafs just have to keep doing what they're doing. If Scrivens is steady, we'll win tonight and Sat. Bank it...

Okay. Calm down. It's a joke.

I didn't realize Cooke's agent got a Hockeybuzz account.

Don't worry about it, Pretty sure this is the Canes conceding the game, and protecting Ward from being embarrassed as badly as Price was.

Everyone knows the leafs are unstopable during Greatest Leaf Weak Ever!

I'm calling shutout
