Yes, how often do players get cut by skates.....lets think about that.
Had it been anyone else but cooke.....we wouldn't be having this conversation. - Fakepartofme
Yea, how often do two players go into the corner?
How often are those players one of the dirtiest and one of the most skilled?
How often does the checking player lift his skate before the hit?
How often does he then drive it into the guy's ankle?
Can we find maybe one time where this happened before?
Because I can definitely find another time when Cooke targeted the other team's best player.

No, let's be clear here. I don't think Cooke was attempting to set up this exact play.
But, given the choice between doing everything possible to prevent his skate blade from contacting another player and just "letting it happen" and letting the chips fall where they will, does anybody believe Cooke's first thought would be for the well-being of his opponent? - Leeman4Gilmour
And how do you know it wasn't? Its a big jump from throwing cheap shots and stupid plays to methodically using your skate as a weapon, cutting someone with it and potentially ruining their career.
Use our heads people.....use them.

So you're suggesting every time a bodycheck is thrown in a game that the player driving his opponent into the boards with physical force is doing so with the well-being of his oppenent in mind? Ground breaking stuff her, gather round children. Today we learn. - systemtool

You cant find another time when a player was cut by someone's skate as a result of a hit or attempting to avoid another player?
AND PLAYERS SKATES LIFT ALL THE TIME BEFORE HITS......hence why theres a penalty.
Is this your first week of hockey? |

Yes by cutting them with a skate.
Genius.
Next you are going to tell me that Luke Schenn is the next Adam Foote.

It was an accident that has happened in the past.....it will happen again unless players start putting protection on.

I hate Cooke... think he's a big D bag... but it seems to me as if he was lifting that foot to pin karlsson to the boards with his leg.
don't get me wrong, if he had the chance to smash karlsson into the boards and hurt him. i don't think he would hesitate.... but i don't think he had the time or the skill to place a perfect slice on karlssons achiles to end his season and possibly career |

angled forward?
Come on.
400+ forwards have played in this season so far.
200+ see more ice/game than Cooke.
But it just so happens that this freak play happens, he's involved, and the other team's best player is on the receiving end.

Yes angle forward. It's a pinning technique and a way to ride a guy into the boards and control him. Ward pointed out examples in last night's flames/stars intermission. It's about as common as passing a puck.
And in terms of the odds of it being Cooke on Karlson, I agree they're slim. But that doesn't mean it was an intentional thing. It just means it was a freak accident. |

I don't think he tried to cut him either, just ride him into the boards and tangle him up.
But there is something to be said about accidents happening with certain players all the time.
For guys like Cooke and Torres, its a reflex. Did his a$$hole reflex kick in? Past results indicate there is a very good chance.
