Ouch.
On Frattin - Dreger's tweet refers to Frattin's previous surgery last spring as 'cartilage reconstruction surgery'. Cartilage problems are worse than any of the ligament tears, the worst of which is the ACL tear which requires reconstruction and a good 6 months of rehab (Morgan Reilly, Galchenyuk, etc.). Frattin's knee sounds like it could be in pretty rough shape. As for Reimer, a minor MCL tear is usually not that big a deal at all if allowed to heal properly before returning to sports. |

I'm secretly Eklund.
And that (frank)ing sucks for Ottawa. As much as I hate that organization, nobody deserves that.
I remember Bryan Berard getting his eye taken out by Hossa's stick. I can scarcely remember the last time I felt sick to my stomach like that as a Leafs fan. Maybe when Dougie tore his ACL after a couple shifts. |

Ill be the first to cross the line on this one.
I hope Karlsson makes a full recovery outside of hockey. As far as being a hockey fan goes, this is great news and I hope he never regains his form. |

Karlsson is an awesome player - I hope he recovers fully. A rare talent. As for Ottawa, I don't hate them nearly as much as I used to when they were our personal playoff whiny whipping boys. Their rebuild has been very impressive, great drafting by Bryan Murray, who was "this close" to being fired a few years ago. |

I'm right there with you. Great player - wrong team. All that's left to do is send Anderson some frozen chicken and a bottle of bubbly and bring back Mark Bell to take care of Alfie and this season will be complete. |

Especially after the Sens organization pulls the douchebaggery they did today over Leaf fans in their poop arena. Karma is a female dog. |

This is the TSN story:
Toronto Maple Leafs F Matt Frattin will be out a week with a knee injury. Frattin's injury is a flare-up of MCL issues that requires a procedure.
The 25-year-old has been strong so far this season, recording seven goals and 10 points in 10 games.
The procedure is required to clean up some damage left from the reconstructive cartilage surgery he had on his left meniscus in May.
Jay McClement took Frattin's place on the third line in practice on Wednesday.
Reports like this piss me off. MCL, Cartilage, and meniscus injuries are all separate issues (though injuries to all of them can occur in one incident), with very different long term ramifications for atheletes, with cartilage and meniscus damage being more serious than MCL strains. It may be the Leafs themselves are the ones creating the confusion, or is it shoddy reporting? |

Probably shoddy reporting, although the Leafs are under no obligation to disclose Frattin's entire medical records.

Miniscus is cartilage
I would assume there is some kind of buildup in there maybe scar tissue that is rubbing on the MCL and causing irritation....... Just need a little scope to clean it up and good as new in a week or two |

Boo urns. Still, you should be able to work some magic to over come that. Cant let one injury bring you down. You're not a Habs fan, pull it together! |
