Alright then here lets go with a history lesson.
Name these players and why one is DAH BEST EVAH, while one HAS ONLY ONE GUD SEASON!!!
81 8 18 26
74 13 13 26
81 18 37 55
70 11 18 29
82 19 18 37
70 36 24 60
Both entered the league at the same age. Both in their third year had ONE GUD YEAR. One was considered a top of the line offensive threat, one was a defense first player. One led his team in goals, one led his team in points. One was worth two firsts and a second, one is worth a mediocre 2nd liner and an average prospect. One wanted 5.5 mil after his big year, one wanted...well 5.5 mil after his big year.
Weird isn;t it. - AdamFrench
And that's what scares me Frenchie, this screams Phil Kessel! These boards cannot handle another Tyler Seguin/Dougie Hamilton for Phil Kessel debate, or is that your agenda? To drive up hits? You sneaky bastard. |

What ???who said anything about giving up both Kadri and Gardiner???... - Fruitcakenipple
And/or.
We dont know what would be given up, but its likely one or both, plus more assets on top of that. |

Uh, you responded to a comment that not worth O'Rielly straight up and then pointed out that he only has 1- 55 point season. What exactly has Kadri done. You also ignore that O'Reilly is known as a very strong defensive forward. Kadri is not.
You can argue that Kadri has more upside. I won't agree, but I respect that is your opinion. I think it is silly to argue about what he has done to date.
He doesn't deserve his salary demands though. That I will agree with. - Aetherial
I'm not saying Kadri has done much more or that Kadri is better.
He's asking for too much....his highest production year came during a contract year.
People need to slow down. |

So, what would we give for Ryan O'Reilly?
Would you trade Kadri straight up?
What you do Kadri + Percy or Blacker?
Would you trade Grabovski straight up?
What about Grabovski and a pick?
Would you do Gardiner straight up?
Would you do Gardiner + Ashton/Colborne?
I would probably do any of the above. - Aetherial
I dont get the fap fest for ROR. He is good but a lot of hype for one year of production especially for a guy who never produced over a PPG in the OHL.
Typically guys who consistently produce at the next level show signs in the junior years. The chance of a Lucic/Borrows type situation coming along are far and in between.
I want to see more from him before I go giving up any major assets |

Well that's the point...all the garbage talk out here is that Colorado wants top prospect(s) and/or 1st rounders. Knowing that's what it could cost us, I don't think O'Reilly is worth it... |

They need to be patient and improve without giving up much in return. Specifically from FA and the buyoutfest this summer. |

Sideways in that the team is giving up several good young players, Kadri and/or Gards, to get one good young player. All of them with short but good resumes in limited action. Then paying that one player more than you're paying the two traded. - systemtool
Several?
I was clear about naming one + a throw in who I don't believe has a significant NHL career ahead of them. |

yeah I just find it funny that people won't give up Kadri AND point out that O'Reilly has had only one good year.
There is a disconnect there.

Easy ....what's absurd about talking trades on a hockey website? Nobody made this poop up. Dreger reported the Avs had discussions with Easter Conf. teams ...for the better part of 5 years we've been talking about the Leafs need for help down the middle ...surely it can't be an absurd discussion? |

Agree. Its a Moot Point anyway. Columbus Hires Burke, Burke trades 2 firsts and a second for ROR and He stars his quick rebuild. Hazel Mae starts covering the Blue jackets..... |

I would love him on this team, just not over paying in terms of assets then over paying in cap dollars to make it happen. If this was Stamkos, I give whatever it takes. But it's not, so I dont see the point in potentially doing more harm than good to the team. - systemtool
Oh I'm sure he would be good on this team....from the 8 - 10 games I've seen him play...he looks good.
But people really need to settle down. |

Im sure you're clear about naming things as im sure you're not Nonis, so it means very little in this debate. |

Sideways from who? I don't see a Leafs center that is as good. Grabovski is close but I don't believe there is any more upside left in Grabovski. - Aetherial
what in hell makes you think this guy is that good?
serious question... not that he's a bad player but the asking price for him will be simply too high.. a 50-60 point defensive forward is not worth all that much.. and his salary demands are flat out absurd
and frenchie is using the silly ass richards argument.. well.. guess what.. richards didnt get 50 points last year and his pace has him getting less than 50 once again this year.
its all about oppurtunity.. o'reilly is over-rated |

Way too packed for my liking. I did notice last time I was there they got an LCBO, much easier to get to the one on Eglington and Hurontario though and a better selection. |

patient??....Not every day a guy like O'Reilly becomes available...
The buyout fest??...U really believe teams are going to buyout good players??...
FA??...Hoping for FA not the best way to attempt landing top talent...
Just ask Burke... |
