He seems to really like playing in Edmonton so I'm hoping we get this done. The Oilers need him bad. Shultz may be the star but Smid is the heart and soul of our D. I'm fine with the slight overpayments on the Eberle and Hall contracts. I think they're well worth the investment.

You completely overestimate how much teams will offer up for a $6.5mil cap hit player who plays like a $4.5mil cap hit player and has a train wreck of a personal life that keeps causing issues between him and his teammates.
