I have no issue with Smyth sitting last night, very bold move by the coach to show that he means business and everyone is accountable no matter what name is on the back of your jersey.
But for all you asa clowns that are hacking on smytty . . .
First of all with the lockout there are lots of 30 something players around the league that are struggling to get there legs going in these first 15 games.
Smytty is one of the greatest OILERS to ever play and I've been here for all 33 years. Not in his skill set but his dedication to this team, this city and you the fans is unquestionable. The guy has bled for you and still will to his last breath so for all of you throwing him under the bus after 12 bad games . . . Show some franking respect!!!!!!
He can still have an important role on this team, and he has earned that. - GWnorth
Look when Smyth left to go to Long Island over 500K he lost all his loyalty from me. Don't get me wrong, I have an autographed Smyth Jersey and 2 Autographed pics. I am a big Smyth fan. But like I said, he lost my undying loyalty when he went to the islanders and then failed to resign the following summer. If he plays like crap I'm gonna call him out.
The pre-game report said that Smyth had been told by management coming in to the year that he'd be scratched here and there to save his legs.
I wonder if Clouts is embellishing how 'furious' Smyth is and how little he understands his role. - Morris
I am not too sure that anyone could not have made some parellels from the previous game where he filled the penalty box... and then had to address it in the media...he played a poop game and put his team in difficult position... and its not the first time... As I said before the guy is like a washed up boxer- trying to feel his way through but his body and mind arent getting the signals properly all the time... only difference is the boxer represents himself whereby Smyth represents the team... WTF was Tambo smoking giving him 2 years Heres to hope he retires in a month

(frank) if he continues to blow like he has the first .25 of the season maybe we have to waiver him or trade him for tape??? Just a thought

Smyth left over 500K that the OIL wouldn't cough up. I blame the team 100% for that happening as at at that time he was worth the money and had been taking the home team discount for way too long.
I agree about his play so far but i take issue with a lot of the comments on here from Oiler fans about the guy.
Like I said he still has a role on this team, they are in dier need of veteran leadership and at what he is making now he is the perfect guy to help the kids become pros. I don't believe for one second that he is a problem in the room or any of this BS about him being upset with the coach or the team for his new role. As was said he is no doubt upset with himself for his play to this point.

Closer to 55 bad games. Not saying to trade him, just that he could use the benching to maybe get back on his game. Play it safe and simple.

Awesome man! Wish I could say the same for Toronto, the '06 run was great around here. Wayne Gretzky's was packed with fans from all over the country and definitely EDM originals like myself. This was part of the reason I went looking for more connection and joined Hockeybuzz back then.
However, I stopped searching for an Oiler-centric bar in TO quite sometime ago. I did notice a couple years back that there were quite a few Toronto based posters on Oilersnation and was going to ask if they knew of a spot.

Could run into a hot goalie again. I'm wondering if we see a new player here for that game.
