Hey, at least he has the pucks from the first couple of games to keep him warm at night.

The locker room guy in Philly hollowed one out and he now uses is it as a drool bucket.

Sorry Al...i'm in the business...and the 3/4 pole means there are 6 furlongs left in the race...and the 1/4 pole (where most of the real running begins) means there is a 1/4 mile or 2 furlongs, left in the race.

Unless...you're talking harness racing..where announcers often mention 3/4 times with a 1/4 mile left in the race.

- philco28

I have been involved myself for many years and I was specifically referring to a one mile race and my experience is about 95% harness but distance is distance....

Announcers will say they are at the 1/8 pole with a 1/8 of mile left but the first quarter is always the first 2 furlongs of the race....Which means 2 furlongs or 1/4 has been completed when they hit the 1/4 pole.

In this case 12 games gone or 1/4 of the race completed.

Solid Points but the fan salute commercial is about the OWNERS and the PLAYERS. Why is Mcdouche standing in the middle of the group at the end saying the last words and not ROCKY?
- nickmo2699

Who really cares? lighten up Francis...perhaps Rocky insisted McD say the last words. If you haven't noticed Rocky is hardly glib when compared to McD, and if Rocky Wirtz wanted to present himself as more of the face of HIS organization he would.

He's the boss after all...

You do realize the Rocky Wirtz is the man who HIRED McD, SUPPORTS McD and wants him to be speaking to the public. If Rocky was at all upset with McD he would discuss his concerns with him directly and things would change quickly...they are both very polished and professional.

Some of you guys seem to think that McDonough and Wirtz are adversaries or competitors...when in fact they both represent the modern leadership of the Chicago Blackhawks. If you have a problem with McDonough, you apparently also have a problem with Wirtz.

Nice..i'm a t-bred guy so when we say the 1/4 pole...we're usually talking about the top of the stretch to the wire...but i understand what you are saying and it's correct as well.

Love your last line too

Yep semantics in a way....You guys are correct in reference to race caller saying they are at the 1/4 pole with two furlongs left but that is after 3/4's of a mile has been raced in a mile race.

But the distance is calculated from the start to the end not the other way.

I almost titled my article yesterday and refrenced the Hawks hitting the 1/4 pole,
meaning 3/4 of the season is left.

If nothing else now we know there are 3 of us that make a wager now and then...

Just been trying to look at possible 2013 free agents that could help Chicago.I mainly watch the hawks so my knowledge is somewht limited, any opinions on Jamie McGuinn?Seems to be not overly huge but fast and physical.Right wing seems ok and excluding centre position I would think a left winger is a smoother fit.(I get that a centre is what we really need)And Dallas may very well covet him!

Hawks tried to trade for him repeatedly last year. And I agree with you.
- John Jaeckel

Just watching highlights of their games and when they played the Hawks, he seems to have stepped up it up a notch offensively. Feel like he'd be tough to pry away, but is the perfect kind of fly around the ice, wear you down presence that Bur, Eager, and Laddy boy were. Pipe dream probably though

Ginner would be a great addition, but I wouldn't expect too many changes in the summer (barring a complete meltdown of the team). We'll have about $4 million to sign 3-4 guys, unless there are two buyouts (say Olesz and Monty) then we have about $10 million to sign a couple more. I'd expect too see the same guys back next year and any vacancies filled from Rockford or lower cost veterans.

Edit: I didn't intend to turn this into a buyout thread, just pointing out some thoughts.

Scott Howson out as GM of the Bluejackets.

Anyone care to ponder who among the coaching ranks is the first to be the recipient of the falling axe? I say Joe Sacco in Colorado.

Weird that Columbus let Howson deal Nash, select a coach and pick a draft only to axe him relatively shortly after that.

Seems dumb to me.

And sit on their hands through the lockout, too. I agree. Although I'm not sure John Davidson came on board until recently.

Various Twitter reports said he skated before practice with Olesz and Montator. Speculation is he could return to practicing with the team within a week, if I am remembering correctly.

Couple years ago, the 911 operator here in Eugene got a call about a burglary at Fraternity on campus. The 911 operator asked if he saw who it did and could he provide a description, his response "it's Jeremiah Masoli"!! At the time he was the starting QB for the Ducks. He got suspended for a year and there's was three other Duck football players involved, none were starters. They were kicked off the team.

Go Beavs!
