Not surprised. I enjoy when Barry's in and since McNeil's been back on, hockey actually has a footprint on Chicago sports talk radio.
- HawkintheD

I'd agree. While I do love Mully and Hanley, I like Barry, especially when he fills in for McNeil. Danny has grown on me, but you can only listen to so much on the betting lines, or his fishing trips.

The point is this droe, why is this goof in One Goal commercials and commercials that are to be marketing the players. I have a hunch he is a suit that makes Stanbo's job more difficult. Sharp will never be moved, not bc of his contract, but he is a Mcdouche marketing tool. If McCub as you call him sticks to marketing and lets the hockey people make the hockey decisions, I have no problem with him. A friend saw him speak in my hometown of Edison Park which is also Mcdouche's and he told me that McD was taking a lot of credit for winning the cup. Thats the issue.

Who gives a crap though? I don't, unless it affects the on ice product. Why wouldn't he take credit, he is the teams president. He is full of himself so what? Why such a care about a suit by a fan base? Hundreds of teams have blow whole suits who think they are more important than they are. He is part of a team that made this club viable again. His one goal crap has brought this team money, which has given this team the ability to spend to the cap and even bury guys when needed. If he is to concerned with sticking his nose in on ice issues, hasn't some of that worked? Campbell comes to mind, and Hossa. I remembered reading he stuck his nose in wanting to make a splash.

As I turn over a new leaf, I will politely disagree. While politics plays in any social dynamic, this is simply way overblown. Patrick Sharp is exactly what you want as an owner. You have a guy who came here and cut his teeth on some bad teams and took lumps and was an important piece of you getting over the hump and back to relevance. Now you don't get a lifetime of carte blanche for that, but your true fans identify that with the guy. Even though many like to forget the growing pains endured. Loyalty is important in any winning organization.

Besides all the hype on marketing, what will you gain by trading Sharp? You don't think 29 other teams would not love to have the guy? Teams draft every spring to find a guy who can be like him. For all his strengths and weaknesses, the guy is a huge net positive.

So are some suggesting that we move Sharp and contract, all his production and club house influence to gain.....? A guy that hopefully does not disrupt the room, scores 3 more goals on average and maybe ends up with 50 more body checks? This is what I do not get.

At the end of the day, if there is a fall out, or production falls, then hockey decisions will be made, this is not baseball. Until then I think many over play this marketing influence. All marketing annoys me and many of you and most of it is so dumb ed down it becomes offensive to people with higher intelligence or knowledge of a situation. JMHO

Gem from last year against the Ducks:

Tonight is a great night for me sports-wise. Champions League soccer followed by the Hawks first home game in a few weeks against a good Ducks team.

For those of you who knock Carcillo, watch what he does on this play. That is a reason he should go back to 1st line when he gets back to health.

Solid Points but the fan salute commercial is about the OWNERS and the PLAYERS. Why is Mcdouche standing in the middle of the group at the end saying the last words and not ROCKY?

If speaking from realities, facts, logic and common sense equate to "insults" to those that fail to use such things, who exactly is being ridiculous???

What does it matter? People can not offend you, you only give them the power to offend you. Instead of being happy you got the prize you want, many obsess over the irrelevant details, like the time of day, place and manner which you received it.

Maybe Rocky is afraid of him, or has a man crush on him, or it was written in his contract? If I am a player, so long as I get my paycheck and have a job the rest is details. The focus is on earning the paycheck and keeping the job.

As fans, so long as the schedule is known, the guys take the ice, and we have something to watch or go see...then we have nothing to complain about either.

That is not talking down to people, that is adding perspective. Some are getting too sensitive. I cleaned up my act. If you disagree, then so be it.

And to answer your question, it matters because the commercial was made to show the gratitude for the fans like us who had to sit here and talk about prospects for three months. Sorry, but seeing his smug face every where when the guy didnt know what a puck was before he got here. Rocky and the players need to show the Fans appreciation.

I saw this last night on Twitter, maybe I missed you guys talking about it but here you go:

Boudreau on Hawks: "They're pissed off and they want to show people why they won the Cup. And they're doing that to everybody."

... astute of Bruce to recognize that

Hope they give the fans a good show tonight!

Fair points, in a market economy, you have the free choice to continue to support the team (via spending) or not. Every business has high maintenance customers (not an insult), and they have to deal with them accordingly.

While I feel the same way about our current president/administration as you do about ONE GOAL (his Indian name), I do not let it temper my love and enthusiasm for my country and my life. I just don't take things personally.

One move for a second line center sets this team up perfectly - Stalberg moves up to the first line, Saad down to 3rd, and Bolland back to the third center.
- Sundevil

What happens to Shaw or Bickell who's been playing well? Bolland and Saad would be on your third line, but who plays the other wing? Neither deserves to be demoted to the 4th line or benched.

I had an exchange with Al a few days ago, and this I believe is the Hawks identity. Embracing who they are (speed and commitment to compete on the puck on both ends of ice) and are daring teams to play physical and clog up things. They realize they have the chips on their side (again my perspective) which is superior talent, and are not worrying about what style everyone else is playing, because outside this board and fan base teams/hockey people are in awe of what they are doing right now.

On McMarketing:

It's a lot like the ongoing debate over our first line LW. His high profile is fine . . . as long as the team is winning.

One thing I APPRECIATE about McDonough is the size of his ego and the resulting commitment to winning another Stanley Cup. No matter what his motivation is, I firmly believe he, Scotty, Stanley all desperately want to win another Cup so they can have their names on it (figuratively speaking) and not Tallon's.

Now, that said, wanting it and being able to get out the way of what's necessary to get it, are two different issues.

This start in 2012-13 is the best thing that ever happened to John McDonough. The Hawk brand—the thing he owns for better or worse—was really suffering this summer.

And McDonough's One Goal commercial about himself and "appearances" at practice to buttonhole Q during the losing streak were not helping. At all. Fans saw through it, and maybe more importantly, I'm hearing players didn't like it.

Only an idiot wouldn't be able to see how it might make players question the priorities of the organization, and therefore on some level, undermine their morale and commitment.

And that's where it does affect things on the ice. I've heard from multiple sources, there was some bad juju out there about the Hawks' organization in the league, among players. Lookno further than PUBLIC statements made by brian Campbell last year. And there was more, on and off the record from numerous ex-Hawks.

Does it hurt free agency recruiting? You bet. If McDonough is the hand holding Bowman back from pulling the trigger on deals, that could also be hurting the Hawks' ability to find dance partners for trades.

Again, bringing Foley back, Cornelison, the commercials, Ambassadors, etc., would not have made a lick of difference if this was still a 13th seed team.

Winning is what it's all about. Winning, more than anything else, rebuilt this brand. Everything else he did was basically a layup from a marketing perspective, and few teams spend on marketing like the Hawks do. Few, if any.

All this right now is good for the brand and therefore good for McDonough. But expectations are now building again. Some people out there are talking like this is a team of destiny and the Cup will be a cakewalk. Those who have followed hockey for a while know the leader at the quarter pole usually is not the team that gets its name on the big prize.

I hope they realize that at 1901 W. and will not hesitate to improve this team given the opportunity. I suspect they now realize it is about winning.

Solid Banter sir. I am a sensitive person and sometimes it comes out. lol

Regardless, tonight will be a good matchup. Im anxious to see if a team can finally play with the Hawks for three periods. The only team to come close IMO was St. Louis.

I agree with your point.what would Saad, Shaw and Kruger look like on the 4th line?Or does moving Shaw off the third line take the energy off of it.I personly don't see us finding a 2nd line centre, may be too expensive or hard to find.

Ive been upset with Sharp so far but somewhere on the world wide web I saw that he's hit 8 posts this year ?? As a matter of fact that beauty he scored on Mike Smith went off the post and in too, hopefully Sharpie just keeps shooting , hopefully the Hawks wont be force feeding him the puck unless they are up by 3+ goals.

I also think seeing the banner for the Kings may have started their fire again, gave them a personal chip on the shoulder- They may have wanted it after 2010, but are now willing to make the plays nght in and out they maybe did'nt the last two years. Whatever it is I would like to order more of it.

I am sure there is much more to this - clubhouse/ focus etc all the things JJ Al and Wiz talk about,
