They seemed to be chasing the play the majority of the night. Poor effort and if spending 18 pages of posts about Colton Orr isnt pathetic enough he goes and scores a goal.

He put the first one wide, then right into Reimer's leg...UGH...there were far too many passengers last night. I didn't like the compete level from 90% of them. Brayden Schenn was one guy that seemed to be playing hard last night...not sure I can think of any others

That rebound shot went off the heel of his stick blade. It was a flub, unfortunately.

Read also played very well early, inability to finish off the SH chance aside.

The first period last night was not a bad one for the Flyers. Too many penalties, but otherwise a solid road period. The rest was a debacle.

- bmeltzer

I agree completely. The only good thing about this game was that they actually seemed to gvie a poop in the 1st period. We've been flat every 1st period this season and hoestly most of last season. I think we need to stop playing soccer for warm ups and start playing dodge ball...

I also felt Read had his heart on his sleeve last night. I'm glad he's getting ice time because he seems to be the only one showing up every game. Poor McGinn, that hit killed me. I like him and have so far been pleasantly surprised by his play. I think the announcers have talked him up a bit much but overall I think he's done well on this call up and I see him as trade bait before being sent back to the AHL ever again.

I wasn't thrilled with the officiating last night. I have never seen so many offsides not called and the whole Rinaldo toss from the game was a bit much. They seemed to be calling crazy little things on us but letting them get away with murder. Yes, I'm biased but there were definately things not called on them in the 2nd that could have. Not that it would have helped. Apparently we go up a man and forget how to skate. /sigh

Ugh, having watched both of these teams all season I feel like its going to be a pretty sloppy game tonight, most of the goals the jets score are of the dirty kind.

Also Bill, not to correct you as you know way more about hockey then I do, and this could have changed, but the jets have been running with a first line of Kane Ladd and Wheeler, which has been doing pretty well for them this year.

Terrible loss obviously but what're you going to do? Hopefully this will wake the team up.

Mike Knuble played hard, but then he always does.

I think if they can manage coming back from this road trip no worse than 3 - 3, they'll be OK.

Good point re crashing the net. My question is who is going to do it? The top forwards on this team are for the most part too damn small! Giroux 172lbs, Briere 179lbs(yeah and if you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you!), Simmonds 182lbs, Read 180 lbs, Schenn 190lbs, Couturier 197lbs...

THe only forwards with decent size are Voracek who rarely plays physical and Knuble who has lost a step and was never fast in the first place. THis team badly misses Scott Hartnell, but even with Hartnell, they could really use another true power forward.

- BiggE

Simmonds plays way bigger than his 182 lbs frame. As does Schenn.

so if i restate what i said when the trade was made - that JVR was a more dynamic talent with a higher ceiling than L Schenn who should have brought back more than just Luke - that would be considered being negative.

Explain what more dynamic means. And how he has a higher ceiling. I wouldn't call it negative, as much as I'd call it incorrect.

And what should JVR have brought back in a trade?

lmao yep. Negative.

Even though our defense looked like a paper screen last night I still do like the trade. Defensemen are always overpriced and let's be honest JVR would not be playing like he is now if we had kept him. He needed this change. I'm happy he's doing well. I don't regret the trade even if he did beat Luke Schenn once to pot a goal on Boosh.

these half ass efforts are getting old fast. I know this team has talent and is better than what they showed last night. This lack of desire on a regular basis is unbecoming of what a Flyers team should be. I'm really disappointed.

looks like Homer is looking to next year, some of his transactions are head scratchers?
- vejim

They're head scratchers if you ignore the efforts put forth to land Shea Weber, Ryan Suter and Zach Parise.

I feel a trade and coaching change coming. Something needs to be done to shake up this status quo of it being ok to play like poop with less than 3 days off. I;m sick of it.

I think Knuble took a couple of lazy, or at least unnecessary, penalties.

JVR is a scorer, who right now is on a hot streak....L Schenn is a shutdown defenseman.... Shutdown defenseman take a lot longer to reach their potential power forwards...With that said JVR has been playing well, but nothing to me that he has done so far indicates that he will continue to play at that level. I think in the end Schenn brings way more to the table than JVR will ever.

I agree with the opinion that JvR should/could have brought more of a return, but I doubt he gets much more than a 3rd rounder tossed in along with Schenn. It's not like they could have landed a 1st and Schenn.

Change is fine as long as it's not change for the sake of change. When you build with young players, you're going o have nights like last night.

San Jose got steamrolled by Columbus last night. I doubt that Joe Pavelski is worrying about finding a new apartment.

yea but is san jose in the habit of losing big like that on the road this year? If it was one loss it'd be one thing but I see a pattern of lackadaisical play which seems to be acceptable because they didn't have enough rest. This problem goes back into last year too. The lack of a backcheck just compounds the problem.

I am a fan of Homers, but he dropped the ball big time. He totally misread his market IMO. He had all of his eggs in one basket, and when they fell through he had nothing to work with. He lost Jagr. He lost Carle. Our offensive depth (something that had been a strong point for years) is pretty non-existent. Our defense is slower and not nearly as effective at moving the puck.

I have said it numerous times. I knew this was going to be a tough season. Homer didnt do ANYTHING this offseason that would clearly elevate this team. In my opinion, he did the opposite.

I pray that we dont make a move for the sake of making a move.
