I agree with you on Rynnas. He has no business starting any games at the NHL level right now.

I just hope Nonis doesn't panic and trade for a goalie right now. If anything, sign Rolie the goalie to a minimum contract. That said, I think Scrivens can handle all the starts for the next week or two. No part of his game has indicated that he'll blow it, so until he does, I'd stay pat with him between the pipes.

With back to back games on Monday/Tuesday thats asking a lot from Scrivens.....

The problem is the schedule. If Reimer is out two weeks, can Scrivens play and play well in a 9 games in 16 nights span? 2 sets of 3 games in 4 days.
- systemtool

If Reimer could be back within 2 weeks (around Feb. 28th), I think Scrivens will be fine.

With the schedule, the only major issue I see is the back to back in Fla.

Not sure if that is such a big deal, as in the AHL they often play 3 games back to back to back , or 3 in 4 nights. Their schedules are messed up.

Agreed. I noted that was the only issue in the schedule assuming Reimer is back on the 28th.

That said, I don't think it justifies going out and trading/signing a goalie for one game.

Now - if Reimers injury extends to over 3 weeks, then I think you need to re-think your options. But for now, I'd stay pat, give Scrivens the ball and let him run with it.

He'll be fine with 1 back to back.

Will he be as effective in the second of the back to back? Probably not. But it's only 1 game.

Not at all. No reason to panic until we see what happens with Reimer.

In terms of our #1....Reimer has answered that question early in the season for us.

Its not just the games. Its the fact the season will be just about half over by then, and the fact Scrivens could struggle early in that stretch of games.

What if Scrivens puts up 8 shutouts and scores 2 goals while Reimers out?

This is the time that the tankers are salivating over, hoping he fails miserably.

Until Scrivens struggles in those stretch of games, I wouldn't push the panic button.

No part of his game so far this year has indicated he can't be a starter. Outside of the 1 shotty game against the NYI (which was more of a team breakdown than anything), he's been very effective.

he will be fine, nothing so far suggests he will choke. I just hope they tell him to stay in the net and stop trying to play the puck. I think that goal by Kostka in the finals last year (frank)ed him up, and he is second guessing himself when he goes to play the puck. Or he is just not very good at it.

Then I'd trade him to a team like Edmonton that needs some goaltending...

Then that should bode well for the Leafs' playoff chances. Leafs won't have much of a problem with salaries going forward, as they'll have a whopping $2.4 million tied up in goalie cap hits next season, with Reimer being an RFA after, and Scrivens a UFA. They have time to figure it out in the event both start playing at such a high level.

That's just silly, more realistically, 6 shutouts and a couple of assists.

If Reimer gone longer than 2 weeks, sign Conklin to a 2 way?
- JIMI-JAMES

What happen?
At the beginning of the season everyone wanted the team to tank...now that they've won a couple of games people are worried about Reimer being out for too long.
WTF?

Rielly is a "decent" prospect?

Rielly is more than a decent prospect.

Not sure trading our top prospect who has an unbelievable ceiling would be a good idea

Especially when he's anywhere for a "Legit young number 1 C or a third line center"

- jbold

That was actually a typo...I meant to put "not Reilly" not sure why it ended up "aka Reilly."

So, yeah, my bad. I agree that trading him is a bad idea.

Anderson is stealing games left and right, if there is one position that can win a game on their own, it is goaltending.
- LeafMan

But how long do you think that will continue?

I do think its because of the great play from the young players, which has us hoping we're headed in the right direction, and the goalie you refer to as a 2A playing like a solid #1, like he did in his first season here, not his injury filled second season.

We're very encouraged that his numbers in 2012/13 are as good as his 2010/11 numbers. So obviously it sucks that he's hurt.

I dont disagree, but we should also not forget every point counts and we should be doing what we can to make the playoffs. We're already giving Scrivens and Reimer that shot, but now that one is hurt we shouldnt be throwing a guy who isn't ready yet into the mix. If this were March and we're 6 points out and in 11th, then yea it's a no brainer.

But how does signing a vet who hasn't played in like 9 month help us now?
