So my question is - why is he allowed back if he's perma banned? I believe it even says that creating a new user id to get around banning means perma banning?

I'm just curious.

I still don't get the hate for JVR, are we not cheering for the same team, do you not want the player to succeed on the team you cheer for? I don't get it.
- LeafMan

He was traded for a Leafs draft pick, who, up until he was traded, was a "cement head" or something along those lines.

Now he's got great potential.

And JVR is no longer an example of what you can get if you draft high.

He sucks.

I would hope all Leaf fans cheer on a 23 year old to succeed who has a great upside and potential, hating on him because he was traded for is absurd.

JVR hasn't done enough to label him a first line winger at this time. But Schenn hasn't done nearly enough to label him a first pairing dman either. I think he can be a pretty damn good shutdown guy eventually, but it's hard to ignore that JVR has played much better in his 13 game stretch as a Leaf than any 13 game stretch that Schenn ever put together in his entire career. Call it coaching, blame that he's a forward not a dman, whatever you want, but they're getting more out of JVR right now than they ever got out of Schenn, and that makes the trade a win from a Leaf standpoint. If Philly is happy with Schenn then great, it's a win/win, but the Leaf side of the equation is undoubtedly a win, thus far, and hopefully will be in the future. Knocking the trade now is just crazy.
- Dirte

The basic problem is that Schenn is slow. You can't teach footspeed, you either have it or you don't. Schenn gets blown by on a regular basis.

He can and probably will improve the other parts of his game, but he's never going to have that speed.

Stevens career went the same way as Steve Yzermans, a tale of litterally two careers. Throughout his 20's he was a loose cannon on the backend, and it was that way until his late 20's early 30's that that defensive awareness you speak of started to show up.
- mykokes

Suggesting that Phaneuf is going to turn out the same way Stevens did?

I'd say it's extremely unlikely.

Hey guys, just like to say, I had no issue talking Dion with TFT today. Try not to focus on who you think he is, or what you think he's done to you in the past, the convos go much better when you just talk hockey with him. Him and I disagreed for three pages, yet he didn't insult me once.

He's done a great job containing Giroux, Ovechkin, and whatever habs were a threat on Saturday. I really hope he doesn't lose that wild play he has, I prefer the Leafs get themselves a top line d quarterback. I'm really hoping Morgan Reilly is that kid. But if Phaneuf becomes more a stay at home beast, I won't complain either.

Hate? Where is the hate you speak of?

van Riemsdyk is a player the Leafs got who has the talent to be a 1st line power forward. The problem has always been his health and his inability to bring it every single game. 13 games is plenty of time for a hot streak but it's not 82 games.

20 teams, Uggie.

20 teams where Phaneuf isn't a #1. Then 20 where he isn't a #2.

Go.

Phaneuf has been able to do that in previous seasons as a Leaf. It doesn't mean he still doesn't have absolutely horrendous games. Look at him during the Islanders and Rangers game. Absolutely lost. It's that low level hockey IQ and inconsistency which hold him back from being as good as people hope he can be.

With that logic if he were to score 85 goals in 48 games it would be meaningless

I think most people here have used up their patience with him an are wary of giving him respect he hasn't earned.

The level of civility shown to him here, even by his harshest critics, is probably more than his past behavior has warranted.

You know what success is for van Riemsdyk? Being healthy and being consistent for 82 games. van Riemsdyk has been healthy for 13 games before. He's also scored in bunches in 13 games before. That's nothing new or special. The reason why the Flyers traded him is because he couldn't do it for 82 games. And that's the real test worth waiting for. And if he can actually play like he should given his size because even now that he's scoring, he's nowhere near physical enough along the boards.

I've said this before, when they traded Schenn, they traded a guy with a great attitude who had things in his game that were easy to fix. Especially if they gave him a chance with the new skating coach and Carlyle instead of that moron Wilson who did more damage than he did good. Having a guy with those defensive and physical tools would have been huge in the long run. What they got in return was a guy who had character issues and health issues. That's harder to correct. They also got a guy who has size but doesn't use it as often as he should. Same problem as Franson.

Nashville is loaded with defensive prospects, they'll find somebody to play with him. Blum is suppose to be really good.
