Wrong, they had Hamrlik beside Phaneuf, a smart defenseman, and a guy who could quarterback the play. Regehr and Phaneuf never worked together because they're both meatheads. And Bouwmeester has been mailing it in for years now. It's not a stretch to say 44 points and 210 hits on a Leafs team that had Phaneuf miscast as the qb, put him with a real QB, you'd see those big seasons happen again. Phaneuf is not a #1 guy, but you stick him with a #1 guy, good to great things will happen.

I know Boumeester was a top 3 overall pick but doesn't qualify him as Elite....He's garbage.
Phaneuf has played with nobody in Toronto since he's been here.

If Phaneuf was slotted next to Chara, Weber, Suter, Lidstrom wouldn't he have better numbers and look a little better out there.....

Phaneuf might be a #2 guy at his absolute best but he's still not smart enough to cover up for the mistakes of his partner because that's usually what the #2 guy has to be able to do. Phaneuf would be the #3 guy and need somebody as the #4 guy who can cover for him when he decides to shut his brain off.
