I have said all along, Horcoff is the main problem. Actually, more specifically, Horcoff being the captain and team leader is the problem. A Horcoff with no letters on his jersey would probably be a very good third line center. In reality though, it would be either Horcoff with the C or Horcoff that just lost the C. So, yeah, he's gotta go.

Phaneuf for Whitney and a 2nd.... while a fair deal value-wise when you consider the large contract of Phaneuf no chance the Leafs pull the trigger. They are not going to trade their captain for a downgrade on defense and a 2nd rounder (even if that pick was 40th overall or better).

If Edmonton wants to steal Phaneuf away it will cost them Whitney and a 1st minimum. They won't do it, no chance in hell, but that is the minimum cost to take a guy that is averaging almost 30 minutes a night.

Phaneuf is a loser, always has been & always will be.

How the hell do you know how Horcoff is as a leader? Are you in the room? From everyone I have heard from other than you and Cloutier, he is a fine leader. He works his ass off every game. You should compare the Oilers records with Horcoff in the lineup to when he is out of the line up.

None of the guys you mentioned are available. What a joke on the Phaneuf deal, he isn't going anywheres along with Kessel both will re-sign 5 year deals.

None of Edmontons young guns are going anywheres so what do you even have that Toronto wants, a team playing well. Gagner is ok but not even an upgrade on Bozak who has chemistry with Kessel, plays big PK minutes and is quickly becoming an face off ace.

MPS is worth nothing to Toronto. Think he gets time over Torontos own young guns Kadri and Frattin? Not a chance.

If there are scouts however they could be looking for some cheap help. MacArthur will be available no less than a 2nd if not a late first from a contender. However MacA is a poor fit for what you need.

Liles could be had for a 2nd maybe even a 3rd +. Franson is playing the best hockey of his career the last two weeks, he's not getting moved at this time.

Gunnarson could maybe be had but he's very underrated, a jack of all trades back there a 2nd will absolutely not get you Gunnar.

Could grab one of the depth guys for mid picks if that's what your looking for but I doubt it. Outside of Liles or MacA there's no deal that makes sense for TO and it's the depth that's keeping them winning right now.

yea right!! Kessel's value is not that high, his skill and calibre is exceptional and overlooked at times by most people, but still his value is much lower than eberle's at the moment, especially since he still hasn't made any committments for TO, as he's a free agent at the end of 2014-2015. I would say Oilers could get Kessel for gagner +, perhaps the + would have to be a player like Pajaarvi but thats all that would be needed for Kessel.

Pretty sure if he was a horrid leader the kids wouldn't have been going to his house for every pre-game supper last year. Strudwick gets a chuckle out of the Horcoff hate, mentions it all the time how Horcoff is one of the most respected players on that team.

I'd say looking at that list I'm not sure what the Oilers would be after either. With Bozak I'd say it'd be the difficulty in deciding what to pay him. Someone's who has been on the top line for years, but not someone you'd say is a normal team's #1 center. Has put up points playing with Kessel and is good in the faceoff circle. Certainly wouldn't move him right now though while sitting in a playoff spot.

Don't think it'd be Phaneuf either. Would wait until his last year to talk extension to see if he will take a paycut there.

I suppose with Gunnarsson and Gardiner eventually getting back to the blueline the Oilers might be looking at the other players on the defence.

I didn't like his play last year, at times he didn't look like he was trying. Looks as if he has bought in this year. No coincidence that our PP has suffered with him out. People complain about him being on the top unit, but he wins the draw and gets the screen setup. Far better than losing the draw and chasing the puck back to your own zone.
