The only problem with your assessment about trading with the Leafs, is what your willing to trade back to us. Would you want to trade back one of your top 6 that you currently have, to get a major piece? What they may be looking at, is a player like Gunnerson, MacArthur or Kulimen. Would you be willing to trade your first draft pick for two of the three? I don't see the Leafs gutting their team, to get nothing in return.

but it's absolutely no secret that he will be bought out at the end of the season, not only so the Oilers can rid themselves of his cap hit, but also so they can rid themselves of a leadership issue that exists. I'm starting to think the 2nd compliance buyout will be used on Ryan Smyth, because his game and his attitude stink. The wonderkids don't need to be around players who care more about complaining than what line they are on or if they are winning.

If Horcoff's cap hit fits next year he will not be bought out. The team needs some vets, and as overpaid as Horcoff is he is a good third line center.

If Smyth's attitude is such an issue, why was he re-signed? I find it hard to believe that being put on the fourth line has him acting like a 10 year old. Yes his play is horrendous, and he has to be aware of it.

say the oilers want to buyout horcoff in the summer, but want to save money, throw him into a deal and add something special, and Toronto buysout horcoff in the summer...

Yes, the 7mil they'd save on Horcoff and Smyth is the make-or-break for the new arena.

Real cash for Horcoff is 4 mil. next year and 3 the year after. A buyout and then signing another third line center is going to be pretty much as much if not more cash out of Katz pocket.

Edit: and we lose a prospect/asset to get TO to buy him out?

First off hahahaha. Ok so i may over value some leafs players cause im biased but your are seriously under valuing them, i dont see the leafs moving any of these players right now. Reimer are you serious, Phaneuf as well ridiculous. If the oilers scouts were there id say it was to watch some of the leafs d as the leafs are loaded with bottom pairing defensemen and that is what the oilers need. Perhaps a tough guy defensemen like fraser, perhaps a solid guy like gunnerson, kostka or holzer. I can also see the leafs moving liles. I dont know what the oilers would send back though, i like paarjarvi but how much would the oilers want for him?

Horcoff isn't going anywhere. Him and Katz are good friends. They live right across from each other.

Please advise us how you know how Katz will come up with his share of the money?

His companies are not publicly traded so he doesn't have to provide the exact details.

The only way he is bought out or traded for a loss, is if his salary affects the ability to re-sign Nuge, Yak or J. Shultz.

It's possible for the leafs new management/ownership to want a gut job of team, I don't see whitney and a 2nd ever being close enough to get phanuef away from them. As much as I hate the guy though, seeing him along side J. Schultz would be good. I would more look at Bozak if the oil think they could resign him, he did grow up with Eb's in regina
