he wont be anything if he doesnt stop taking penalties....sabres.com said he has taken 49 minors already this year......49!
- Homer

He's a little hothead from my understanding.

Like Glennie/Beach type hothead.

Probably,
But I thought that about Ennis too
He's playing center now, so I'll still keep him in that group
Girgensons was playing mostly wing in Rochester which I thought kind of weird, but maybe they're just easing him into the center position bc he's so young

- jdfitz77

They're trying to just ease him in. He's playing in a league full of 20+ year olds. He's a baby compared to them. It's all about the learning curve for him.

I get what he's saying as well. But I tend to play devil's advocate.

Plus, there's a way to make an argument for taking him even with Hodgson and Grigorenko here. There's no harm in drafting a center, and moving him to wing if you end up with too many. Both Philly and LA have done that. It's one position that I'd like to be well stocked at. He just wasn't really giving a reason other than Hodgson and Grigs weren't drafted in the top 5.

You didn't tell me why you would take Seth Jones 1st overall except that you liked him in the WJC. From what I have read for years about MacKinnon and the Sabres going decades without a franchise center, you take one in my opinion.

He has talent, so I wouldn't mind seeing him get another shot... But Goose has watched a good amount of Rochester games this year & thinks he's lazy... It appears we aren't gonna see him up here unless we have a rash of injuries

Decades? You don't think that Briere or Drury could be considered franchise centers?

I wish we had been able to keep one of them longer, but they weren't exactly terrible.

Nothing I've seen/heard about MacKinnon has made me jump for joy over him. However, the opposite could be said about Jones. He came out at the beginning of the tournament and basically had a "Messier Moment" by saying the thought the USA was the best team in the tournament. That takes balls. He also played lights out and was instrumental in their success, while MacKinnon fell by the wayside and got outshined by Drouin on his own team.

Is that better?

All true
I'd take Jones though as well, he looks nasty
But I'd be shocked if we are picking high enough to get either

Ive heard he was an only child and had everything handed to him as a kid. Had tons of talent and never had to work hard at anything. Now the talent alone wont get you by at this level.

Kind of a big baby still.

I expected to see him really going all out when he got sent down last year. Instead, he was pretty much invisible.

The games I've seen this year, he pretty much just coasts out there. I can see why the leash was really short on him here in Buffalo. He just doesn't have the want/drive to care enough. He'll be in the AHL his whole career probably. He may put up decent numbers there like Mancari, but that's pretty much his ceiling at this point, IMO.

even if we end up in last place this year, I can see us getting screwed over by the new lottery system.
