so luke adam is pretty much done with the sabres? the guy has size, speed, and a great wrist shot but he might not have the head for the game. what do you all think?

????

I think he'd have a hard time beating Andreychuk in a race.

It's the same. Both of them are 5'11". Crosby has about 25lbs on him in weight.

So, what you're saying is you're settling for the 12th pick in the draft who was passed over by 11 other teams and a center who will max out as a 2nd line center? We've had plenty of 2nd line centers and players drafted 11-13 in the draft (Stafford, Marek Zagrapan) Got it.

grigorenko was considered a top 5 but he had a poor tournament and his stock fell. also with the looming lockout coming and him being a russian he was a gamble, sorta.

So because they weren't drafted in the top 5, they're no good.

I guess Giroux, Kesler, and Getzlaf are all bums as well.

EDIT: I forgot about Datsyuk and Zetterberg as well.

- HonkFortheGoose

They weren't drafted by Darcy Regier though, and you take franchise centers when you can get them, especially when you have had Roy and Connolly "leading" the way for too many losing years.

And Homer, he is 5'11 and 180 pds but is rugged and will get bigger. My opinion is if the Sabres tank and get the 1st pick I'd take MacKinnon others wouldn't, that's ok.

If he was like Crosby as far as the can't miss thing, he wouldn't have fallen in the rankings. Jones is #1 right now.

Oh, so just because Regier drafted him means he'll be no good. That makes sense.

That means Cody should be just fine then.

So you're saying you're giving up on Grigorenko already, and Hodgson isn't good enough either.

Got it.

- HonkFortheGoose

Goose, you're very feisty tonight
I get what he's saying about a franchise center, there's certainly an argument to be made there
I happen to like our centers though
I think Hodgson, Ennis & Grigorenko can all be ppg players and will at least be of "#2" quality
Girgensons should at least turn into a "gaustad-like" player, with the potential to be a much better goal scorer
We also have Catenacci who is a feistier version of Ennis,
And Kea and Jacobs are bigger 3rd/4th line types

Darcy has done a great job transitioning from having no youthful talent at center, to a pretty deep stable at the position

You're right. I do know that.

However, you're the one that just said that it doesn't matter when most of the team is in the minus column. Well, I hate to break it to you, but we currently have 10 players that are minus, and 5 that are plus. The rest are all at 0. That's pretty much the definition of a crappy team.

- HonkFortheGoose

I didn't mean it as a blanket statement
I was just trying to say that there are good players on bad teams that have less than desirable +/- numbers

That was a little tongue in cheek but besides Vanek, taken 5th in the draft, what other even pseudo franchise player has Darcy drafted? Miller I guess but give me a forward or dman?

to be fair, connolly was pretty decent for a while but after he got hurt in the playoffs, he was never the same. they were hoping he would come back to form and didn't fix the problem fast enough.

I get what he's saying as well. But I tend to play devil's advocate.

Plus, there's a way to make an argument for taking him even with Hodgson and Grigorenko here. There's no harm in drafting a center, and moving him to wing if you end up with too many. Both Philly and LA have done that. It's one position that I'd like to be well stocked at. He just wasn't really giving a reason other than Hodgson and Grigs weren't drafted in the top 5.

Probably,
But I thought that about Ennis too
He's playing center now, so I'll still keep him in that group
Girgensons was playing mostly wing in Rochester which I thought kind of weird, but maybe they're just easing him into the center position bc he's so young
