Is Boyle for a 2nd unrealistic if it is to a desperate team?
- mrhattrick27

I think we would be lucky to get a 4th or 5th rounder.

Sather needs to pull out his blackmail rolodex and make some calls.

San Jose has been scouting us, and just went into quite a losing streak and looked bad in Columbus last night.

I am sure they would want a savior like a Brian Boyle

- jimbro83

For who? Isn't Jason Demers a serviceable defensemen with a decent salary?

I just don't think the Rangers would trade depth for picks right now.
- jimbro83

Well I'm thinkihg of flipping it ala what the Redwings and TB did a few years ago with a First Rounder.

I think you guys are underestimated the value of decent centermen in the league. Just remember what the Sabres got for Gaustad at the deadline last year. Brian Boyle still has value.

but does he replace somebody in the lineup? I think we acquire him and he sits with Eminger in the press box

I agree. The Rangers want someone that can help the roster now, unless someone offers them a first for Boyle.

Boyle definitely has value, his contract is sweet and he has size and shown he can score.

Gaustad also has balls, and is one of the top faceoff guys in the league. Hes not a huge pillow like Boyle.

Honestly, I don't know him that well. You could see if Regehr is available. Or take a shot with Ryan Whitney as a rental, who isn't even playing for the Oilers. Maybe the change of scenery would do well for him.

But again, if they are willing to throw McIlrath in a package, maybe they can make a move for a younger long term option on defense.

yeah, but you don't say that to the other team when you are negotiating.

You say Brian Boyle is 6-7, can score 20 goals and just needs a change of scenery at this point, he'll be GREAT for you. And you even send them a youtube clip of him being dominant in the first three games vs Ottawa last year.

Don't tell me Brian Boyle doesn't have balls. All last year I saw that guy lay himself on the line blocking shots with reckless abandon. He doesn't play like a guy who is 6'7, but he ain't no daisy either.

And then the other GM plays youtube videos of Boyle getting pushed off the puck like a child on a regular basis.

If Boyle doesnt have the puck (except fighting, geez I dont know why he even bothers) Im ok with him. But on his stick... he has stone hands and no ability to use his size to shield/protect the puck.

Oh I have much faith in Sather's little black rolodex.

The Scott Gomez trade sealed that.

We can definitely get something decent for him. Include McIlrath and one of our gazillion 3rd rounders and Boom, we have a sweet package for an impact guy

Thing is, its all about when youre trading the player. If youre trading Boyle in the offseason after the 20 goal year, yes you will probably get a decent return. If youre trading him now after being a healthy scratch two (going on 3 straight games) and the only goal scored came as a deflection off his ass... the return will only be as good as Sather's jedi mind tricks, which are pretty good. Basically its all on Sather and that is very unpredictable.

You know, one injury and all of a sudden we aren't talking about trading Brian Boyle anymore. Perhaps we are being a little rash in wanting to trade him, unless the Rangers get an offer that is too good to refuse.

Who? Defense, right? I ain't trading McIlrath unless there is a good young defensemen on a bargain salary coming back.

How about Boyle for Stephen Weiss straight up, or maybe even throw in a little sweetener? Although Florida will probably create a bidding war and get more near the deadline.
