i think it's too early to make any long term assessments, but i think he's really given them the green light offensively without any real system. and this has confused them more than anything else.

it seems we give up a sh1tload of odd man rushes, quality chances etc while struggling to have any real structure offensively.

i was a little worried he was gonna stifle the kids abit by doing the swiss thing thats worked for him in the past against superior teams.
choking off offence with sort of a trapish system and counterpunch.
it hasnt looked like that's been his strategy at all.

I suppose, I just find that one annoying, it is just soooo over done, I have a ginger friend and even just hanging around him I hear it a lot, I can't even imagine how much he hears it.

ive said from the get go, id love to make the playoffs, but just being in the hunt till the end and playing meaningfull games late was my hope.
and if ur scenario played out, id be dissapointed, but satisfied. that's ahuge improvement.

Can't really disagree. Just have to hope they learn slowly.

From my point of view, Dubnyk looked like a bag of poop early. Wasn't moving side to side, didn't play rebounds. Now looks like a legit starter.

J.Schultz, kid looked like poop defensively. Had problems early with his wrist shot being blocked. Fast forward and while his shot gets blocked from time to time it's getting through more. Defense still not there at times, but how about that play in the 3rd yesterday? He has great defensive plays every game, just needs to play a bit smarter positionally.

Corky, Magnus, Harti have all shown strides at getting better.

Now if the top 6 would just learn that dumping the puck is an option. Don't need to transform this team to a dump and chase, but you start getting goals of the dump and chase(like the Eberle no goal) and maybe you have the d thinking more.

Well in my scenario if the draft was today and Oilers did win the lotto, colorado would be 5th, if we traded the 1st overall and lets say Rieder + a 2nd or something for their 5th and O'Reilly we could still maybe pick up Barkov or Monahan. Not bad if you ask me. I am assuming you would want Jones? He is probably the only one I would want that bad, Mackinnon is just more of the same of what we already have.

If one of the LA or NY picks got #1, Then Columbus could draft Jones, Mackinnon/Drouin, and Monahan/Barkov/Shinkaruk. Add that to Murphy, Jenner, Foligno and the current roster and look out in a couple years.
