Their start has been fine. Everytime I come into these Oiler threads, it's like the sky is falling and they're in last place all over again or something. What do Oiler fans expect? They aren't going to be one of the best teams in the league this year, they'll be lucky to battle for a playoff spot, but that's not a bad thing. Lots of good signs in Oiler land right now, from Dubnyk looking like a legit #1 to Justin Shultz emerging as the best young D in the league already. Top line is the biggest dissapointment for me, sure Hall might have 8 or 9 ast's or whatever, but his job is to score goals, he's a goal scorer with speed and a shot, not a play-maker. RNH has been terrible, I saw this coming from his finaly few games at the WJC. He doesn't look right at all. Eberle has shown flashes, but overall not nearly consistent enough. Gagner has been solid offensively, but is he really a #2 Centre defensively? Not sure. Overall, with the injuries and the Oilers being such a young team, they've played just fine and right at or over expectations. Fans need to stop over-reacting.

Gagner haters at the end of the season will be like " if Gagner hadn't had that 10 game point streak, his stats wouldn't be so high"

Kane 6.3, Toews 6.3, Sharp 5.9, Hossa 5.2, Seabrook 5.8, Keith 5.5

We will be fine if he end up paying Hall, Eberle, RNH, Schultz and Yakupov the same.

I am not saying that we can't afford it... My point is at .500 hockey I doubt many will accept it... Further I think MPS will change many people's minds this yr...

Its just effort. Not seeing enough of it especially against a team like columbus. When you get outshot 45-15 by the jackets the sky is falling

Hmmm, Whitney has spiraled beyond needing a change of scenery or not fitting in - his game is just awful right now and I feel bad for him.

What trade? A fifth round pick? In that instance we're better off keeping him to see if he can sip from some fountain of youth or something.

Whitney is mad that he got the A taken away from him... this is his way of taking it out on us.

Do you think BOS would consider Whitney? The team just cleared Thomas's salary and they might take a risk on Whitney to provide some PP spark? He's a UFA, I don't think EDM should really ask for much. Otherwise maybe PIT?
- deks1

Right now, anyone's first D call up from their farm team is going to be better then Whitney.

I can't imagine any team even taking a flyer on him right now.

haha perhaps.
I actually wouldn't be surprised if that rationale has seeped into Smitty's subconscious. Yesterday was just weird. Bad penalties, a game misconduct, misplays and turnovers.

Boy for being in 2nd you folks don't have much of a sense of humor today. But I'll humor you a bit, yes, I'm mad bro. Mad that we didn't get the best player in the world and had to settle for Suter and his $100 million contract.

Not sure about that.. He has foot problems and really only ever played well for like 17 or so games... Like right after the trade... Other than that we continue to wait for... I guess his (frank)ing contract to expire... Thank the fuq we had Schultz fall in our lap otherwise tambo would be fired by now and we would be lining up for ones!

As I mentioned previously; I think the standings are going to be so close this year that you'll see teams from 10-7 tied for points. Its going to be so tight and a couple teams are going to be heartbroken when they tie for 7th, but end up out of the playoffs.
- Iggysbff

Wow. Ya been a while since we've seen standings come down season series or god forbid poop like GF / GA

5 wins, 7 losses is not a winning record.
- BestRapperAlive

True, but 19 teams don't have winning records so far.

In the past five years:
10 playoff teams
1 division winner
1 cup winning team
1 cup finalist

have had losing records. A winning record is ideal, but coming from we're coming from, more wins than regulation losses will do for now.

Yuuuuup and we will be possibly one of those teams... And there will be all the should could But did not BS
- saskoil21

Thank god for loser point yes, but if the Oilers are in that tie scenario come the end of the regular season we'll out on lack of wins alone.

is disturbing that Oiler management are still willing to gas entire season 'evaluating' talent. when does winning become a priority? not this year. that's fosho.

You need to explain this further.. They arent gassing the season, like noted above we are 5-4-3... The goal of the nhl is not who can make the most trades.
