Well, Im not surprised they are doing well, I am surprised how well they are doing.

Zajac and Josefson healthy lessen the blow of Parise. The Carter-Gionta-Bernier line doing well is critical to our success, and guys like Butler and Larsson stepping up and contributing is what the Devils needed.

Those two certainly do not replace Zach's offence. They have produced next to nothing. Josefson hasn't exactly been playing with good player though. Zajac I just hope he can pick it up. We've been fine to far though. Could be that top line having very little chemistry.

I'm not ready to give Josefson a stamp of approval just yet. He's skating hard and going to the right areas. His scoring chances are getting there, but he just cant seem to get the goals or assists coming. Fourth line or not, 1 assist in 12 games certainly doesn't help make up for Parise.

More than anything else, Henrique panning out will aid in this team's success on offense.

No but it softens the blow. Parises offense is going to be replaced by committee.

I don't get why people hate JJ, he's doing the little things right, he's playing superbly defensively and he's playing alongside no one that facilitates offense. Butler has been playing well, but they need another guy like Zubrus on that line.

Parises regular season scoring is being replaced by our second line clicking so well, and Carter-Gionta-Berner putting up points. Our bottom six seldom came through with anything close to a scoring chance or a goal last year. This year they are much more capable, people forget how much our top six carried us scoringwise for a majority of last year. We don't need that anymore with JJ, Butler, and the CBGB capable of giving us good offensive minutes.

I don't hate on Josefson. I think he can be a solid 3rd line center. His defensive game is very good. I understand he is still growing as a player and his offense should improve in the future. Playing with Barsh does not help, once they get a winger that has top 9 forward skill him along with Butler can make a solid 3rd line. I get the feeling Barsh won't have a role on this team once the trade deadline passes and we are in the playoffs. Well I at least hope.

As for Parise's scoring being replaced...Clarkson has been terrific but he will eventually slow down. Our LW on the top line is still an area of concern. Doubt Matteau will be staying there for too long. I fully expect Lou to make some deals for rentals in order to improve our depth one LW.

What about Tanguay?? One of the better playmaking LWs out there, .. problem is there's 3 years left on his contract after this year expires.. could be a good fit with Zajac-Kovalchuk.
What about Iginla?? Kovalchuk-Zajac-Iginla?

Please no to both. To get good players you have to give up good stuff and we really can't afford to give up players. Maybe during the deadline we can pick up somebody being dumped because of money and get a depth player. If Lou feels the team needs a big name he'll get one but otherwise I don't see the need to.

I think Lou has done a great job getting Bobby Butler. The guy has been working really hard so far and adding a good amount of offense. I like what he has to add.

He's getting up there in years though. I'm going to take a look at the players who have a year left on their contract who could be a good fit for us.

It's been danced around:

Raymond, Jagr, Bouchard, Ribiero, Antropov, Ponikarovsky, MacArthur, Clowe, Gagne, Ryder, Penner, Sullivan, Prospal.

Sullivan and Jagr could be interesting options if they come cheap. I tried to include the cheaper players and left handers and/or left wings.

Since the Devils are winning anyway, Lou's probably sticking with Matteau and Butler for the time being.

Tanguay's contract goes beyond this year, and it doesn't seem the Devils can take on more salary like that. Additionally, we need someone who can score, not pass.

I wouldn't have a problem with trading one of our D men like Tallinder + one of our good defensive prospects like Urbom or Gelinas for Tanguay. Probably not enough would have to add a pick or something but I think it would be a good fit. Doubt they trade Tanguay though. 3.5 is not bad for what he brings.

Wouldn't ind MacArthur at all. Not sure we're compatible trading partners with the leafs, however.

Have you spoken to a Leafs fan before? Every team is a compatible trade partner.
