More useless stats:

Stafford has the most shots in the league without a goal at 36. Next closest is Clowe with 29

- keptupl8

He doesn't make too much less than Staff does either. Though I like Clowe better.

We're supposed to be a tougher team to play against. He would help.

But where did it go? I don't buy that Tallinder made him look that good. He played really, really well his rookie year and at times since. He's not playing anywhere near the level we've seen in the past.

just a head case?

- keptupl8

No he's confused, just like they all are, did you see them not able to clear the zone again and again and agian last night.

now it's the coaching

damn it I wish you guys would stick to one or the other

does myers suck, or is it the coaching

a lot of those mistakes he has made, is not coach IMO, it's a lack of focus
lack of focus, a common theme when a sabre gets the big paycheck

- homiedclown

I think it is the coach. The kid has a ton of talent. Maybe we were spoiled by his huge rookie year. Maybe he needs to work harder.

Maybe the coach is in his head. Maybe the player thinks he has certain strengths and the coach disagrees.

Maybe it's a team where the soft spoken captain puts fear in no one and another guy wearing an A is a poor man's Miro Satan. It's pathetic that I can compare 21 to Satan.

Maybe?

We may be tougher to play against. Perhaps Terry should have specified tougher to win against too.

By the way, to suggest Hecht at 35 is a better defensive forward than Vanek is asinine.

No one has backchecked harder than Vanek this year. He would do as good a job as Hecht on the pk, no doubt in my mind, but his coach doesn't trust him in that role.

Coaching, yet again.

It basically sounded like Hamilton was saying this morning that he just doesn't do what he should in the offseason and that's why he's struggling so bad at the beginning of each season. He said that's typical of a lot of younger players and some catch onto that faster. Hodgson was the example he used for that side of things. Roy was the one he used for the side that takes longer.

I female doged when we signed Hecht and the argument I got was that he knows the system and he would help our 4th line and could play on the 3rd line if needed. Turns out he's the same old comfy brown shoe that Lindy can wear on any occasion. Drives me nuts

I've heard that too. I thought this year might be different because he supposedly trained with Shea Weber, but maybe he just met him for coffee one day and considered that training.

He might be a slow starter. I seem to remember Hawerchuk being like that as well.

its not lack of talent, its lack of a hockey IQ. That's his fault.
- Homer

Hank did not make him win the rookie of the year though
Hank was not on the ice when Myers and Grags were, by far, our 2 best d men in that flyer series

by the way Hank is also a healthy scratch

I really think it's focus, at least he was making plays up front before he got paid

I agree completely. You knew he would give Hecht a huge role so long as he was healthy. A 35 giving you huge minutes and a big role, good lord, he better be named Selanne.

But he also played in Europe during the lockout. He shouldn't have this much rust to shake off. Something else might be going on there

Focus and thinking too much. He has to realize that at his size, he can physically dominate. Like when Marchand undressed him in Boston on the wing, why would Myers play the puck rather than the man? He has to know 10/10 times he should be playing the body in that scenario.

This. The notion that he can't be a force because he is stupid is just that IMO. He's proven he can do it, there is something else going on there.

I dont buy the Tallinder thing either.

Maybe it came to easy to early for him and he didnt put the work in, if people knew they would fix it, its a mystery.

You're right, no accountability on the coach for a Calder winner getting worse at the easiest part of the game.

did he all of a sudden get stupid? I think his message is stale and not getting through, but I think the group of players he has to work with has a lot to do with it.

It didn't sound like he was playing all that well there either. And nobody there was holding him accountable for his fitness either because really, what did they care? The level of talent there is so much less to begin with, it probably wasn't as noticeable of a disparity.

It's part Myers fault, no doubt about it. Im not blaming his problems 100% on Lindy. But part of it is the organization not handling him correctly. If he has a low hockey IQ like you say, then the coaches should be aware of that and should know how to simplify things for the kid.

I'm not sure I agree on this one.

Hecht seems pretty trust worthy out there, not to say Vanek isn't but players have roles. Vanek does kill penalties from time to time but that takes away from his ES time.

Ruff himself said he has asked Vanek to kill a penalty and Vanek tells him no.
