I hear once we make the move to Quebec they'll be changing the team name to the Dangerfields. |

The Pens certainly got worked this weekend, but this "devil Hockey" you refer to is the same slow and interfere, booring ass game the league doesn't want. That said...nice job. - Doogs
Wow I finally agree with a Pens fan, can't figure out where the NHL's definition of interference and the Devils game plan begin and end. |

Overachieving; no, hardest working; absolutely.
Just because they're disciplined doesn't mean they're boring, it's playing with a purpose not reckless abandon.
The Devils will never get any respect no matter what style they play which is fine because as long as they're winning it doesn't matter what anyone thinks.
I find their games quite exciting. - FAZOOL
Isn't this the "Rangers Hockey" you trolls were putting down last season, every team goes through ups and downs, watch out for that next step.....it's a doosy. |

What? Make sense with your retorts, the Rangers don't interfere with every attacking forward, it's subtle but it's exactly what makes the Devils effective, take away the circumvention of actual hockey and the Devils are mediocre at best. |

No your obnoxious. you think your team invented winning, it's been 10 years, might be longer for us but don't act as if you're a dynasty. |

People were ragging on the rangers shotblocking. The devils play a disciplined team defense. There aren't many similarities in how the two teams play the game on either side of the puck at all. |

3 cups in 9 years is pretty much a dynasty in todays sports world
rangers hockey isn't "exciting" hockey either by whatever standard you want to use, don't let the media and the ny name fool you, the rangers play a defensive system and pretty much have 5 goalies and lundqvist.....and they just like every other team "interfere" just like the devils
don't be blind to it |

Never called it "trap", I called it"Interference" as in the penalty that's never called on the Devils way of life. |

Ha ha, Losers lament! We here this same garbage in Minny all the time. It's asinine. As long as my team wins, I could care less how flashy or fast paced the game is.

A ton of teams play "picks" and interference hockey. Hockey's offensive and defensive styles evolve and I don't criticize what works. Ottawa-Anaheim played a ton of picks, the famous one being a supporting player "blocking" someone out to open a skating lane for the guy with the puck.
Carolina and Pittsburgh both won the cup based on fast skating and "easy falls" (diving) combined with awesome power plays.
What makes one strategy so much better than the other? Detroit throws a big idiot (Holmstrom, Ciccarelli) in front of the net and that guy draws penalties. Guess who does it as well? Chicago when they use Byfuglien and they win the cup.
Anaheim gets Pronger and starts to play heavy checking and pick hockey, they win the cup with one guy capable of scoring on their team (Andy McDonald) while the rest are "okay" (Perry, Getzlaf, Penner were still young and not bonafide, yet). LA does that (Anze Kopitar) combined with the collapsing D that Babcock made famous on Anaheim's 2003 run. Guess who was the first to solve that style of play (New Jersey) with trash offense (precision point shots [Rafalski was a pro, and now we got Greene and Larsson who are developing that game], tips, traffic)?
Jersey took after Boston when they won the cup... their "defense" is a heavy forecheck that keeps the opposition in the defensive zone. I'm sure you remember the Bernier Carter Gionta line.
I certainly wasn't criticizing Rangers hockey last year. Well, Rangers... they actually borrowed Montreal's (Jacques Martin) philosophy when they went on their run; play collapsing and shot blocking d and establish a breakout game, which Kreider, Gaborik, and Boyle were pretty good at. But they, like the Canadiens, wore themselves out in two 7 game series, which is the problem when you play collapsing d and breakout hockey.
The last true offensive team to win the Cup was Tampa Bay in 2004. Chicago and Pittsburgh won it more based on special teams than offense. |

I don't care if each player is riding an opposing players back up and down the ice. If they don't get called then you have to adjust. They play within the rules and they play with structure. It's up to the opposing team to change to combat it. The Pens didn't do that this weekend.
I think the way the Devils clog the neutral zone and the way they play opposing stars so tight is brilliant. Frustrate the hell out of the opposition until they start taking penalties. Worked like a charm this weekend in the first game, the 2nd was much the same minus the penalties. If the Pens won these games nobody would be talking about a "trap".
With all that said I don't think we're "doomed" if we meet the Devils in the playoffs. We won the previous 3 meetings by a score of 15-5 or something so we can combat that style. Just didn't prove it this weekend, huge 4 points for the Devils, congratulations. |

No I know. I was referring to some comments I saw over the weekend saying the Pens better hope they don't meet them in the playoffs. |

Do you guys remember that last year the Rangers literally laid on the ice the entire game blocking shots because I'm pretty sure I remember this happening. Apparently that wasn't boring hockey. |

I'll give Chicago as the last offensive based team to win the cup, but they had about as deep of a team you can construct with a cap. You basically need good defense to win the cup. Good defense is boring to most, especially the devils since we have the combination of a very strong team defense and the ability to control the puck for long stretches of play. |
