I wouldnt take Johansen for gagner straight up. JOhansen hasnt proved anything - TheNugeIsHuge
Are you cereal? If the Jackets offered Johansen straight up for Gagner, it wouldn't take me 10 seconds to answer. "Done!" |

He's also physical, feisty, solid on faceoffs, and bigger than "Sammy". Also, his highest point total is higher. - MaximumBone
I don't know if he's streaky or what but he's not producing |

How about Dubinsky, and Foligno for Gagner, MPS and a 2nd. Oilers add a ton of grit to their top 6. MPS is certainly expendable and Prospal fills in for Gagner till somebody is ready - Bieksa#3
So you mean Dubinsky, Foligno, Prospal for Gagner, MPS, and 2nd pick? I prefer to keep MPS, just based on his recent play. Work on Gagner+ for Dubinsky. Also, too much salary going on EDM books, CBJ needs to take some back. Whitney going back for sure. Prospal and Whitney both being UFA are traded at deadline or walks at season end. |

I'm not really familiar with Foligno, I'll have to give him a look tonight. It'd be tough to part with some truly young players in Gags and Maggie, but it would add a lot of grit. |

Dubinsky is a very good player, I think you guys are undervaluing him. He is kind of in that limbo that guys who put up more points than a typical 3rd line center get when they're not quite productive enough to really be a number 2. However, he's big, talented, and plays a key position, center, that every team has a need at. That alone has value.
But there is such a shortage of 1st and 2nd line centers that many guys are playing more minutes than they ideally are suited for. It wouldn't be a stretch to play Dubinsky as a number 2 center. Heck, Columbus had Manny Maholtra playing 1st line center minutes just a couple of years ago and he's really a 4th line center.
But if I'm Columbus and thinking of a rebuild - and not sure that's what they're planning, the Hawks played them once so far this season and they were a far better "team" than they have been in years, playing as a cohesive unit, so maybe they will wait until later in the season to get a feel if they can contend for a playoff spot or not, but if they do deal vets I would think they would want young prospects over picks. Picks are so far away from playing in the NHL (if ever), and Columbus needs to get some promising kids in there to sell tickets and keep the franchise. Otherwise we'll be looking at them in Quebec or Seattle in a few years.
I'd think the teams could match up with something like Dubinsky and a veteran (young vet d-man like Nikitin?) for a couple of young wingers (and maybe a salary dump like Whitney coming back). Which wingers? Not sure. But that could make some sense for each team. |

I'm not sure if I am. Dubinsky's top season was 54pts. Hemsky? 77. Huge difference between the two. He's older than Gagner and has only three years left until UFA status, so he's equal to, if not worth less than Sammy.
I'm really not sure what the Oilers could willingly give up to make a deal work. That was the point of the blog. - Maxbone
Can't just judge a player on stats. Dubinsky is also good defensively and physical. Is Hemsky? No. |

Dubinsky would be a solid pick up for you guys. I think it would take more than MPS and a pick though. |

I begin to wonder is EDM the most penalized team this season so far...wouldn't be surprised if EDM was the most outshot team. |
