I'll take a win anytime... 3-1 is great... But all I kept thinking about was 40-14 in shots. Yikes... Cmon guys. I don't think my girlfriend can figure out why i'm so disappointed when "my team won".

I'll make an honest effort here.

The Good
Dubnyk- has played like some of us always thought he could.
Schultz - as advertised. offensive instincts to spare and surprisingly composed defensively.
Hemsky - still hate him sometimes, but resurgent.
Gagner - suck it prock.
Yak - finding his way, but this guy can score and loves the game.
Petry/Smid - asides from a few rusty gaffes, still a solid pairing.
Fistric - tough and responsible.
Winning some close games and getting at least loser points.
PK solid.

The Bad
Nuge - love him but hes off to a rocky start. dece two way play but needs to be much better offensively.
Potter - horribly inconsistent and at times just horrible.
Hartikainen - still like him a lot, but needs to stick to his role and wreak havoc every time hes out there and make the goalies life hell.
The PP - an early season mirage. scouted, adjusted to and now all but impotent. actually seems to generate chances the other way.

The Ugly
Smyth - its over.
Whitney - ugh.
Injuries - as usual. leading us to...
Depth - Horcoff and Belanger should not deep six our FO% so horrifically. Nuge and Gags NEED to be better on the dot.
Cohesiveness - none.
longbottom and that other guy
Any players not mentioned are ones that are performing as they should.

Here's the thing. Sometimes teams win they don't deserve to win and sometimes teams lose when they don't deserve to lose. Did anyone see Montreal pepper James Reimer with 37 shots and still lose badly? There were stretches of that game where the Habs were badly outplaying the Leafs but they still lost.

Tonight parts of the Oilers that we as fans expect more from (Hall, Eb's, RNH) looked poor, but other aspects of the team stepped up. They killed 7 penalties, blocked 13 shots, and outhit the Blue Jackets. So tonight they won ugly against a bad tea,. At some point they will lose a pretty game against a bad team too. They showed some decent character in coming back and scoring the shorty when they easily could have collapsed after the Blue Jackets tied it.

Tearing apart a young team that anybody with any sense of realism knew would struggle at times is pointless. Be happy they won, but recognize that it wasn't a perfect victory, but hell even good teams win ugly sometimes.

Being out in Ottawa I haven't been able to see as many of the games as most of you have. Today's game wasn't available out here so I can't comment specifically about it.

Overall, the games I've seen the Oilers are better than last year. A young team will, at times look confused. It's part of the development process. Justin Schultz has added a dimension to the team that has been missing. It's like the Oil got two number one selections this year.

Yak looks to still be a bit off on timing. It will come.

After 12 games the team is really only at the stage they should be at coming out of training camp. While other teams are in the same predicament I think training camp is more important to a young team with a new coach.

What the Oilers sadly lack is size up front and the ability to get physical. They need to find someone preferably a Center but if not a winger that has size, strength and toughness. Unfortunately those players don't grow on tree's and teams with those players won't give them up easily.

it comes down to the core of leadership... ya horc can win a draw, but he doesn't care about winning a game, or blocking shots. GTFO

Smyth doesn't play with passion tha he once did again GTFO

I'll cut Whits a break, hes coming of several injuries the pas couple years but. Maybe its time for the leaders to gtfo

on a bright side...

reports sound like peckham is playing great in OKC. As long as he makes a good first pass and can bring energy to the team I'm happy. Hopefully he gets a shot at the big club soon

I heard he's 246lbs though hopefully thats Protein shakes not Strawberry shakes

(frank) them all, get some bullies here to push around other teams and play at a higher tempo. I would much rather have Brian Boyle, Mike Brown, and Pat Maroon in the line up than Smyth, Horc, whitney
I like the passion Belanger has showed... does he have two broken toes??? and he cares enough to play

just saw the groupings for sochi. canada's got the easiest group for sure.
we got finland, and then a couple weak sisters.

russia, slovakia and the states all in the same group. brutal

sweden, czech rep and swiss in the other

funny how the IIHF figures all the rankings out. think we're like 6th or something!

apparently our recent early exits in the worlds worked out for the best!!

Depends on the stream, but they're consistently solid. Some are obviously better than others so it's just a matter of trial and error.

Centre Ice is only $50, I case you prefer to watch in HD, not a game shot with an iPad.

I made the mistake of opting for Game Center over Center Ice this year...never again. Game Center has some nice features like being able to watch a game whenever I want, but their visuals are worse than NHL94 for Sega Genasis.

Can the guys still go forehand, backhand, topshelf on a breakaway and score everytime?

As an Oiler fan in B.C. Center Ice is a must. Trying to stream the game on my phone yesterday on the ferry reminded me of that.

Wow, finally got a chance to read some comments. Why is everyone so extreme one way or another? Obviously there are some major issues with this team, there have been for a few years now.Should they be playing better? Maybe. The only differences from a 29th place finish last year are J. Shultz, Yak, Fistric Dubnyk in a starter roll and one more year of experience. All the same issues from last year are still here, injuries, lack of size, team defense etc. The PP is quite a large concern as of late, but the PK looks a lot better. The biggest concerns are F/O's and shots against, these NEED to be addressed.
With a few tweaks I think this team will be able to compete in the playoffs soon, but not yet. The bottom 6 need some revamping, and the top 6 as we all know could really use a large skilled body. One more solid D-man would go a long way as well.
There is a lot of skill here and hopefully when it gels we'll see some great results.
I wasn't able to watch the last 2 games but it doesn't seem too good, but I think when Ebs and Nuge wake up this team should go on a roll for a bit.
I don't think this is a playoff team, but I still feel they can be in the mix until the last few games and spoil it for a few other teams

Don't try and live your fantasy's through me bro.

The problem was the wifi on the FERRY sucks and they don't let you stream anything.
