Meh. I think most know that Edler has little to no control over his stick breaking.

Yeah it's like even seeing glimpses of the Oilers succeed just points out how many areas the team needs to improve.

I agree with the veteran leadership comment, and I think Tambs is unfortunately stuck in a chicken and egg situation: useful vets want to finish their careers on cup contenders, so the Oilers need to prove they can win. But the Oilers need veteran leadership to help themselves become competitive in the first place. I think he may need to pull the trigger and overpay on a choice FA or two.

Problem is, I don't think FA is going to have as many of those choice veterans anymore, players are going to want to sign long term before they get to FA so that they can be fit underneath the cap (at least for the next few years while the HRR sorts itself out), might be better for Tambi to trade some depth at forward for some help. Getting Fistric was nice, but he's at best a 6/7 D-man and you really need help back there. J. Shultz is going to be a stud for you for at least 10 years, but beyond him and Smid, you're thin on the blueline for talent and size especially. I rag on Dubnyk, but I think he'll be serviceable, at least for the short-term but long-term you're going to have to either develop a real stud goalie who can steal you games or else find a career backup who's been a #1 and can handle a higher workload than normal to complement Dubnyk.
