Part of it's the fact that MTL hasn't looked anywhere near the team they've been so far this season.

You guys are missing the point. The taxpayer pays for the CBC, and even HNIC can't be expected to justify the billion dollars or so the CBC gets.

The biggest hockey team in the country is owned by the two biggest TV companies in canada. They will basically have a veto over when the Leafs play and who broadcasts them. The CBC gets TOR on saturdays because saturday was always their day, and the league simply knew to slot the in there. If Rogers and Bell don't get Saturday nights, they can request the Leafs play on sunday afternoons like in the 90s, and they do have that leverage.

Even without ownership of the Leafs each one of Rogers and Bell could, on their own, outbid the CBC. Together, they call the shots. The CBC couldn't keep a damn hockey song. Hell, remember the Ron Maclean contract fiasco a few years ago? they pay Ron 900k and THAT was a problem. Trust me. The CBC may still broadcast on saturdays once this contract expires, but that team won't be the Leafs.


Oh and go figure Kessel gets his second in two games.
