Speaking of one point making a difference, that reminds me of the last legitimately meaningful moment in Leafs history:
Watching Wade (frank)ing Dubliewicz steal a game for the Islanders against New Jersey on a Sunday afternoon. The single point they got for getting to OT was enough to tie us for 8th (we had the tiebreaker). The extra point for winning the shoot out eliminated us.

Earlier that season, Antropov(I think) scored a wird goal vs the Islanders in OT, from the corner, behind the goal line. But it was called back because Poni being within 15ft of DiPi(I think) counted as "incidental contact".
Islanders won that game in the end.
