We always win on small ice? 200 x 85?

vancouver was the only olympics to use an NHL sized rink.

i dont know why you guys have a such a bad outlook on fraser and holzer.. both have been very dependable... something that has been lacking on the leafs for a long time.

also, why bring rielly up for bottom pairing minutes when you can give him top pairing minutes in the AHL? the leafs have plenty of PMDs ahead of him.. they can afford to develop him properly

- Dozzer

They appear to be dependable, but it has more to do with playing in the AHL, before the lockout happened. Players who didn't play, or played on big ice in Europe, are still in catch-up mode. They won't be so dependable, once players get themselves up to NHL gamespeed.

just saw that earlier post. I doubt it takes three years. I'd rather see him get another year in the WHL next year, maybe captain Team Canada at the WJCs, but I can't see three more years.
- prock

year 1: he cant play in the AHL next year. too young and doesnt have enough junior years under his belt

so back to junior he goes.

year 2: after that year he will be looking at breaking a leafs defense that already features liles gardiner and franson. no need for an offensive D there.

so off to the marlies

year 3: after surviving his first pro season the holes in his game will have been found, and another year of development will be necessary

so back to the marlies where he becomes not only a big minute d-man, but a team leader.

year 4: liles is gone (contract done) and rielly is ready, slides up from the AHL to take his place.

nope, and the only reason the IIHF allowed it in vancouver was because the arena was already there

SLC was international size

Yeah hes a sick player but there is no point of playing him when we dont got the team. If we put a team together shove him in there, its always nice to have a young gun

i know he is good... but for once the leafs can afford to develop a guy properly

i bet no one thought gardiner would be in the AHL now in the off season

i am looking at how the leafs are handling their young guys now and i bet rielly is going to be taken along the slow route.

I hope your right, but there's allot of teams looking for defencemen right now. We may be able to get something for one of our extra ones. Liles could get us a 1st rounder or good prospect from one of the contending teams that lack offence from their defence.

Well? Where is this season going for the Leafs? 1 game over .500 and sit precariously in a playoff spot currently. Watching Washington and Philly sleepwalking and maybe there is an avenue for a playoff spot. Tonight's game is an imperative, if we want to get in. Boston is a given, in the Northeast. Ottawa is probably also getting in. So beating out the Habs is the imperative here. Three teams will come out of the Atlantic, probably Rangers, Pens and Jersey. Two will come out of the Southeast. The next 10 games will tell allot about where this team is going.
- PrinceLH

Outside of PGh and Bos I don't see any other team as guarenteed to be there. The short season adds all kinds of crazy variance. The Leafs can be a suprise team and I think they will be. Their defense on paper looks horrible, but Frason and Holzer have been steady and Kostka has been very good. Franson has been a pleasant suprise and Dion and Liles are solid as always.

I agree with you, but Rielly will be in the NHL sooner than later. He is just too good. Gardner is good, but Rielly is on another level.
