So you like our team with Kostka, and the other 2 AHL callups? Myers could be the perfect partner for a player like Rielly or Gardiner.
- PrinceLH

We have depth on D, and id rather have getz or perry locked up with a big contract than taking a questionable contract of myers on D.

Kostka is playing really good whats wrong with him? Fraser and holzer i would say no.

So your saying our D in the future of:

Gunner Phaneuf

Rielly Gardiner

Liles Kostka

would not be good enough?

(Franson, Fraser, Holzer, Blacker, Finn, Percy) then you have these guys

It could be a shortcut to getting a good player, if he could be had while his value is low. The Sabres are not the best team to play for right now, with their helter skelter lineup. They don't seem to play as a team. I think Myers needs structure in his game. Carlyle could do that.
- PrinceLH

Like i said before it's certainly worth a call...I doubt they interested in moving him just yet but Nonis should at least check it out...

Leafs are in a good position cap wise to take a chance on a kid like him..

Rielly is 3 years away from making the leafs imo. You'll see him developed much the same way as Kadri I bet.

Returned to junior next year then a couple of years on the Marlies to get used to the pro game.

I think replace Smith with Ward, Fleury for me is a no go.
- LeafMan

I think we should wait until the year OF because anything can happen in a year.

Steve Mason was the favourite to steal the 3rd goalie slot in 2010 after his Calder win, people said his sophomore slump would go away and he would be a top goalie...well he sucks now.

2 years ago people argued Fleury would run away as the starter, now he'd be lucky to make the team

Hell, who's to say Backstrom leaves Minny next season and Matt Hackett goes wild (teehee) is he suddenly a candidate?

The skaters will be good no question, but far and away the best? I'm not so sure.

Canadians need to realize that the rest of the world has caught up when it comes to hockey talent and their development leagues.

- Dozzer

oh, I think they are still far and away the best. Other countries can roll out comparable first lines, but the second and third lines are still almost as good as the first line. No other country can say anything close to the same.

He has the tools, but it's unlikely that they Sabres trade him in the division. Only the Leafs do that, with terrible consequences. At least the Jets are making a game of it, against the Sens. Very unexpected, because the Jets are not a real close knit team and I'm not sold on their coach.

I know he's had health issues, but is Josh Harding not even considered Minny's next best young goalie?

Well we've only won two medals out of four Olympics with NHL players.

Don't need to rush him... And 20 is still two years away for him.

But the leafs have liles and gardiner and to an extent, franson as offensive d-men.

No need to rush a kid when you do t have to

It would be best for Rielly, but if he develops, he may get a look for 10 games, next year. It all depends who we have on our defense next year. Kostka, I can live with, on the bottom half of the defense, but I can't say that the two other Marlies will make us a playoff contender.

Only way id rush the kid is if we get a team by this summer. Its unlikely but possible, we always bring up getz and perry, if these guys come, it changes alot of things and having rielly in there would put this team over the edge, but for now i agree it really does not matter because we dont have the team for him to play with yet

i dont know why you guys have a such a bad outlook on fraser and holzer.. both have been very dependable... something that has been lacking on the leafs for a long time.

also, why bring rielly up for bottom pairing minutes when you can give him top pairing minutes in the AHL? the leafs have plenty of PMDs ahead of him.. they can afford to develop him properly

just saw that earlier post. I doubt it takes three years. I'd rather see him get another year in the WHL next year, maybe captain Team Canada at the WJCs, but I can't see three more years.

Also, I like Holzer. Good guy to fill a third pairing. Play limited minutes, fairly dependable.
