Should of been able to work out a deal with less $

With the salary cap going down, thats a lot of $ to spend on an aging defenseman.
- stveshdy

Better to spend it on Timonen than the other aging defensemen on the market.

My point of view on this is, the Flyers will need to replace Kimmo and to replace him, that player( an #1 d-man) will command about the same as Kimmo. So for the Flyers to re-up Kimmo for one year at this dollar amount isn't a bad thing. This cap space will be used for a #1 wether it is Kimmo or someone else.

2 years from now when a few of the kids are due for raises this 6mil still needs to be available for the #1 d-man whom ever that might be, unless the Flyers land a kid who is in the early years of his career and has a low cap number.

Well, the other options are trading a massive ton of assets for another defenseman with an existing deal or trading a ton of assets for a defenseman with an expiring deal and then re-signing him to a larger one, or signing a guy to a massive offer sheet, and waiting a week while the guy's old team matches it.

I understand the penalty and it needed to be called. But I wont call that a dirty hit per se because McGinn was slipping and if he hadn't slipped his head would not have been where it was.

You can say he should have let up but it seemed to be a bang bang play and he had already committed himself.

Need to capitalize.

Or do nothing, let him walk, and have Coburn as our #1 defensman

I just don't like that cap hit. Timonen is a warrior and provides leadership and respect in the locker room. Just wish they could of got him cheaper.

Regardless of whether or not McGinn fell, it still was going to be a hit from behind

That's the price of a #1 d-man.

they have knuble out there on 4 on 4, but then no one out there to stand in front of the net on the 4 on 3..... stop trying to score from the goal line side of the net.

I don't know what is available but I just think that price is alittle high. I'm not disappointed in the Flyers for signing him to another year b/c he is a vaulable player just would of liked to see his deal alittle cheaper.

He's not a number 1 d-man anymore IMO. Very solid defenseman but his skills arent what they use to be.

Look at this game alone, he is the #1 d-man.

His play shows he is a #1.
