Yup, nobody here let him build confidence long enough to show what he could do

JVR is a solid player, but I like Schenn as well. Imagine if we still had JVR and no schenn D would be more of a hot mess.

I'd like more mobility. Foster scares me, especially when he's paired with Grossmann.

He's been a little better lately. But he is suspect. Has a good shot. But that's about it.

There was no doubt in my mind that the Flyers were giving up a good player with a lot of potential in JVR. But we got a very good young defenseman in return. Good deal for both sides.

I really liked Schenn's game today.. (missed the 3rd and ot) makin some good plays in his zone and hitting.
- Hextall271

if you meant luke, i'd say he had a good game...brayden finally got a clue. he's also gtta keep his game simple.

I did mean Luke. Brayden needs to keep it up and so does Jake v..

L. Schenn has been a heck of a pickup. You have to give quality to get quality.

Guessing the no fun policy the Canadians coach has put in place will have a revolt coming soon.

Yep. Like 'em both. Happy to see a dman that can actually hit an opponent on the team. Last year I felt that was lacking.

I readily admit he's not as bad as I feared he'd be, but I still get nervous when he's out there against speedier forwards

I think he has been okay in the last few games. Hopefully Meszaros can get back and take his place in the lineup soon.

Therrien`s a horrible coach and teams get sick of him fast.

Yep. The thing about Gustafsson is, without being able to see him, you have to rely on the reporters. Some have said he's been fine, other have mentioned that he's struggled.

I think Gustafsson would be playing if not for the injury. He is as good or better than our #5 and #6 (Foster & Bruno).

The team played much better today but playing Carolina doesn't say much.

In the games I've seen I don't think they've done a bad job moving the puck out of the zone.. Timonen of course, we know is money, Mez when he gets back has shown he can carry/pass the puck up...but even guys like Grossman, Coburn and Schenn have done a pretty good job of winning puck battles and getting it up the ice, and even joining the play offensively without getting caught deep. Grossman especially, is showing some surprising two-way ability imo. I really don't miss Carle. Would I take him at 4 mil? Sure. But 5.5? No thanks. I'd rather have guys like Schenn and Grossman who can play a more physical/stalwart game on D, but still move the puck and join the play when necessary.

They'll always be some times when the team has a little too much time in their own zone (like almost every team)...this was true even with Carle around, but again, the D has guys that can win battles and get the puck out without much trouble. The forwards have been coming back and helping a bit more too. While moving the puck can always stand to improve, I don't see it as a glaring hole or deficiency on this team.

My concern grows when you start playing better teams and who force the issue. The Flyers could use another puck moving defenseman. Mez will definately help but adding Gustafsson as a #6 could be a bonus this year.

I think Gervais is better than Gustafsson. Gustafsson isn't proven by any means. Gervais is a proven solid third pair defenseman.

Gervais has played well so far this year. I'm actually surprised by how well he has played.

I still like the upside and potential of Gustafsson over Gervais. I think Gustafsson can be a solid 3rd pairing player.

Gervais already is a solid third pairing guy. Gustafsson's "upside" is basically being Gervais. That said I have no issue if Gustafsson makes the team ahead of him or not.

I like Gus a lot. People already know that by now. I just think the kid has the chance to be a very solid defenseman in this league. He obviously has areas where he needs to improve but at some point he is going to have to step up and run with it when he gets the chance. It's his time to prove what he can do.

Gervais has been fine overall in his role. He makes some pretty creative first passes out of the zone. He has started off some nice breaks here and there.
