Anyway, back to actual hockey talk....

Re: trading Iggy etc. I think CGY can get away with moving Iggy, Cammi and, depending on the return of the 3, JBo. All 3 should be able to bring back 1st's + prospects of varying degrees. We would remain competitive by keeping Tangs, GlenX, Hudler, Gio & Wideman as the productive vets and guys like Backs, Sven, and TJ being good to solid young players and good role guys like Stemp and I think Cervenka (who looks like he will have decent success in the NHL). Sign a decent FA or 2 and we're fighting for PO. Meanwhile, we have created a solid pool prospect and future wave of Flames players.

IMO it would be more of a 'retool' than a 'rebuild.' And yes in the style of the Sens or PHI.

I agree with this statement. But I don't think you'd get 1st back for all three, I think kipper and iggy could probably get you a first though

Depends on who the trading partner is... and how badly the need is. Teams like Pittsburgh or Philly may be willing to give more up if they're on the cusp or crawl out of the hole they are in... (more so Philly)

That's true, I just think you have a hard time getting a first for cammy, he's only scored more than 55 points twice, and hasn't done a whole lot lately. Iginla and kipper, 1+ easy

I'd agree.....you could get a first for Kipper and Ig no problem. Cammy could net you a decent young player perhaps.

Good blog. A few opinions:
a) Next man up- Horak's time to shine
b) Play Irving until Kip is back. Let him build confidence, and, a potential resume for trade bait / justification for keeping him next yr.
c) Vancouver is going to be tough. Even if they lose, it's a successful trip, all things considered.

Haha I know I know.....rough go for him. Unfortunately he may just be one of those injury prone players by the looks of things. He was playing so good.

I don't. He is 25 and has avg potential.
Horak is the 'kid' with potential, and has two Czech linemates, and has a golden opp to prove he is part of the future (as I think he is).
And whip, sorry, but I don't see any reason why Street would start over Horak.
edit: should

Horak doesn't give them the size they need down the middle right now is my guess.

Ouch, tough loss for the Flames. The NW division..worst in hockey?

Actually, I'd say one of the best. The Atlantic and Central, f/b the NW

I don't understand Street over Horak, but then again I haven't been keeping tabs on the Heat since the NHL started kicking again.

Guys that can score goals, especially proven PO goal scorers, will always be worth more than a 1st at the deadline. Cammi will net a 1st + if they move him and if he starts to find the range a little bit here. Once he's back from the injury that is.

Atlantic and Central are definitely the best in each conference. IMO the Pacific is better than the NW. The Southeast is weak besides the Canes. So maybe not the worst, but 4th at best.

I agree, it should be Horak. But, apparently Street had a great camp and fits very well into Hartleys system.

We can only hope. I'm still hoping for a top draft pick and a few other 1st's via vet trades at the deadline.

unless he scores a bunch after returning, and with his contract, a 2nd at best seems likely. they are best off not trading anyone IMO

Nor do I. Horak hasn't been lighting it up per db, but, he is playing with inferior talent. Playing with Hudler and Cervenka could give him the boost he needs...hell, it helped Stajan.
I think that Street is another Jones, nothing more.
And, I'd like to see Sarich instead of Butler against the Nucks, for physicality.

I wouldn't take Stajan off that line right now. They've arguably been our best line.

I think you could reasonably slot him between GlenX/Cammi and Stepniak and move Horak up to a money line, to spread the goodwill.
All for naught though, since it appears he is not going to play anyway.
Hope the newbie does ok on the 3rd line...not holding my breath though.
