JJ - I'm with you on Shaw as I also questioned him and thought he was better at wing than center but he's improving every game at the pivot and is not starting to lead that line offensively as well. They just constantly move their feet.
- golfbard

I'm still not sure Shaw isn't a better winger but for now that line is playing very well as a unit.

I'll disagree. I've played at a level where fighting happens (juniors) and there isn't much to it when two tough guys go at it just for the hell of it. Might be fun to watch, but doesn't help out much on the ice. Now, when someone on the team gets run, the other team takes liberties with one of your guys, etc and there is a fight...then that is when it gets your team going and it matters. In those fights, it doesn't even matter who wins (see Keith's fight the other night) but the team will get around that type of fight.

Well, clearly that isn't the truth if I just did. Plenty of people do. Would you have preferred if I said "Junior A" or are you just attempting to start something stupid over the internet?

We are approaching the first quarter of the season, and have amassed lots of points.

We have seen alert fighting for pucks on almost every play and it isn't easy to work that hard 60 minutes, it is commitment.

We have seen rebound-stingy goaltending paired with full team defense and it along with the work to get pucks has made a constant driving transition game.

We can try and pick apart various pieces but essentially there are lot's of things to like.

IMO, "little" Andrew Shaw is everything you want in a hockey player…and more.

It has to be that Brandon Saad's groin issues were pretty severe, because it is pretty clear he is powerful skater with gears and a solid force in collisions that we didn't see last time around.

And to see Tazer turn Oliver Ekman Larsson inside out was, well, a thing of beauty.

I am tickled at they way these players have come to play.

It is like teams they are about to play were expecting a wave and don't know what hit them when it feels like a full blown Tsumami…

Let's talk more about getting better players … if we want to frustrate ourselves until the March dealing...

I had an event to attend last night, so I just finished watching last night's game. Wiz sums up my thoughts nicely...especially the part about Toews' goal

Some pretty passing last night too: Shaw to Stalberg, Kaner to Bolly, Sharpie to Kaner (that's Ogi complimenting Sharp for those keeping score at home), and Stalberg to Bicks.

Hope they can keep this freight train rolling right on through Nashvegas on Sunday, and come home on a high note.

Stan was clearly sleeping at the wheel again...come on Stan, we could have offered a 4th round pick!

It takes a lot of confidence to make a trade when your team has picked up 20 of 22 possible points.

That Toews goal was sick. Real sick. And Kaner's pass to Bolland was nice.

I bet Sharp had a 'Nam like flashback to the Vancouver playoff series when he hammered the back door into Smith's pads.

I agree, it could have been a nice little pickup for the Hawks, maybe some extra insurance

It couldn't have been any more obvious that regardless of the bad blood between the two teams Quenneville and Tippet have a world of respect for eachother. Quenneville rolling the third and fourth lines during the power plays late in the game was indicative of that.
- Ballam

The coaches respect for one another shouldn't really matter. It's not like Tippett told Torres to go out and nail someone like that back in April.

The end-the-bad-blood agreement should have been with Bollig spilling some of Torres blood, at least along the lines of what McQuaid did.

No intent of throwing this at Stan or any of that kind of nonsense, figured the trade was worth mentioning as it's a young d-man. Would've rather had Loktionov anyway for more center depth.

"Bollig who is nursing a banged up hand, was chomping at the bit to get at Torres . . . Bollig was extremely disappointed, but reluctantly understood."

Apparently some Hawk players wanted him out there for that purpose too.

Just passing it along.

- John Jaeckel

And we'd all know Bollig would be grinning the entire time he was putting a beatdown on that scumbag.

Would love to see BB tuneup Torres. Hope we get to see it.

I know, I was just being sarcastic and poking fun at all the Stan haters.

They way the boys are playing it's hard to pick out any area that needs a significant upgrade. Going into the playoffs I'd like a veteran bottom 6 center and a big body to park in from of the net but it's not like they're "must haves".

Hayes has been playing well in Rockford. Somebody tweeted that Hayes has 7 goals in his past 10 games (or something like that). Maybe Hayes gets a look soon?

I disagree. See paulr's comment above about the value of payback. You talk to guys who play, most disagree with your point.

I DO agree that Mayers sort of decisioning Torres is dissatisfying. If it is known around the leagur that running a Hawk star will get you pummeled by a guy like Bollig, I think there is a deterrent effect.

Let me be clear, to Torres' credit, he knew he had to man up for what he did. Guys like Kronwall won't. But, for guys like Tootoo, Carcillo, Pinizzotto, Bissonette, etc., they must man up for stuff like that.

Is it perfect, no. Is it still part of the game for a reason? I think so.

- John Jaeckel

Torres "manned up" cuz it was Mayers. If it was Bollig, he'd either run away like a pu$$y or turtle.

Or both would be nice

Loktionov could be a nice fit in possibly depth wise.
The Ellerby would be something you have as insurance if needed or someone is having a bad stretch of games.

If Ellerby couldn't play regular for Tallon in Flordia what makes you think he gains a half step to play with this fast Hawk team?

I don't, I was kidding. It just seems like every time there's a trade in the league people jump all over Stan for not making it first.

Zero points in 10 games and 36 minutes in penalties

Our D is fine
