Legitimate question with no ill intent.

Outside of Buffalo and Chicago, do any other fanbases spend this much time talking about largely irrelevant, scratched 4th liners?

- AceRatbang

Most the other fanbases spend time discussing them posting "their" line combos...it just drives me nuts!

No ill intent taken, but 4th liners are and will be apart of the game, and we all want our up & comers, hopefuls, and nexts to do well...

It couldn't have been any more obvious that regardless of the bad blood between the two teams Quenneville and Tippet have a world of respect for eachother. Quenneville rolling the third and fourth lines during the power plays late in the game was indicative of that.
- Ballam

Q in his presser stated their was premeditated retribution in mind before the gme. The hawks exacted plenty of retribution on the score board. Yote forwards were just cruising all nite on the back check...they were terrible. Dmen no better taking bad penalty after bad penalty.

We are approaching the first quarter of the season, and have amassed lots of points.

We have seen alert fighting for pucks on almost every play and it isn't easy to work that hard 60 minutes, it is commitment.

We have seen rebound-stingy goaltending paired with full team defense and it along with the work to get pucks has made a constant driving transition game.

We can try and pick apart various pieces but essentially there are lot's of things to like.

IMO, "little" Andrew Shaw is everything you want in a hockey player…and more.

It has to be that Brandon Saad's groin issues were pretty severe, because it is pretty clear he is powerful skater with gears and a solid force in collisions that we didn't see last time around.

And to see Tazer turn Oliver Ekman Larsson inside out was, well, a thing of beauty.

I am tickled at they way these players have come to play.

It is like teams they are about to play were expecting a wave and don't know what hit them when it feels like a full blown Tsumami…

Let's talk more about getting better players … if we want to frustrate ourselves until the March dealing...

- wiz1901

If the team continues to play exactly this way then I'd agree that trade talk is pointless but you know as well as most of us here that the Hawks will get spanked once or twice and will show some type of weakness before the regular season is out. It would amount to complete incompetence if SB isn’t looking for weaknesses and debating on the moves needed to close those gaps. And because the Hawks do have weaknesses, if not yet apparent, it is a fans prerogative to talk trade even if some fans don’t like it.

On the Comcast Chicago feed last night, they showed Tippett and when reading his lips he said "F'n joke". Do you think he was:

a) Taking about how the refs were calling the game
b) The way his team was playing
c) The was Mike Smith has played against Chicago
d) All of the above

Well the fighting and rivalries of the past couple decades are really not like in the original six era.

I remember a United Center game where Hawks Probert fought Domi and they were out that night TOGETHER getting cocktails.

A lot different than when both teams would play back to back games in both cities and ride the train after game one to the other town...and players wouldn't go to the dining car, because they would have to walk through the train car where the oppositions sleeping berths where...they didn't want to see them, talk to them, because they were the enemy!

- wiz1901

John Ferguson used to say - 'hating an opponent is not a seasonal thing with me. I hate them 12 months a year. That's why I don't rub elbows with players from other teams at banquets, summer schools or golf courses'.

Thats why I hate today's pre-arranged fights between 2 tough guys, they are probably pals off the ice.

The hawks simply did what everyone here said they needed to do. Yea, Mayers went with Torres early and it looked like it was the hawks game from there on out.

Was Mike Smith bad last night? I dont know, two back door five on three goals, Toews undressing their best D-man and putting it in the usual spot, and a behind the net feed to the slot for Bickell.

I think what we saw last night was the Hawks do everything they didnt do last spring in that 6 game series. It was a nice victory and boy was it nice to see a win in that fashion after a few heart stoppers.

To think back before the season started and expect to possibly get 22 of 24 points to start the season was laughable. Like before the cup run in 2010 the players had played together for a while except a few new faces. This team is the same way. Several new faces and players excepting their rolls and playing a team game. This lengthy home stand after Sunday will tell us a lot about what this team might be able to accomplish. I don't think Stan will do much if anything to change where there at!!!

None of the above. He was referring to what possible value was there in having a franchise in Phoenix.

I notice you dont list your team beneath your profile tag. Is that because your team is in the bottom five of the conference?

Great blog JJ

Shaw is also impressing me especially as a 5th round pick
The 3rd line is fast and they have the chemistry and skill to make plays through the neutral zone and around the net

Sharp had his best game and as bad as he has been he has eleven points

Glad Suter passed up on the Hawks offer last June

He is looking average and over paid in those God awful Jerseys in Minnesota

$200 million wow .......ouch

I think your right Tippett and Q made a deal and that was a good idea

- PEIHawkFan

I agree about Shaw, he continues to improve and show he belongs as a center in the NHL. The chemistry between Stalberg, Shaw and Bickell has been great as well. It's nice to see Shaw get to 50% on the face off dot too, hopefully that aspect of his game continues to develop.

There have been a lot of pleasant surprises so far this season, but I think Shaw in the 3C role is the most surprising. Before the season started all discussion surrounding the third line center role revolved around Bolland or his potential replacements - Kruger, Danault or McNeill. I know it's still very early, but out issues down the middle seem to be working themselves out with Bolland on the 2nd line, Shaw on the 3rd and Kruger on the 4th. Danault and to a lesser extent McNeill may not be that far off from playing in the NHL, but if our current centers keep playing this well there will be no need to rush their development, which is better for the long term success of the club.

Hey JJ,

What do you think about this option? Everyone is aware that the Washington Capitals are drowning with cement shoes on....

I believe because of all this, Marcus Johannsen can be had for a 1st round pick this year. he is a rfa and at only 900k, we dont need to ship any current roster players out. I think this would add enormous depth and gives us a 2C option in case bolland hits a lull again

- FourFeathers773

At one point I remembered seeing something about Johannson wanting out of Washington and that he wasn't happy with his role. Washington may love him but he may not feel the same way. I'd have to look back where I read that though, but I like your thought process here.
