88 said afterward how pumped he and the bench were after this...the pic confirms it. - philco28

Darth we don't need top six help. We have a deep enough roster to mix and match lines going forward. We may need a little more grit and someone who can win face offs. As far as trading now.....thank god us fans aren't GM's....this team is about to come off a two week 6 game road trip where they will have a minimum of 8 points or even 10 out of a possible 12......that is phenomenal. This team has come together....the locker room is pretty sound. You make a trade now, you run the risk of doing more harm than good. They feel like a band of brothers.....the mayers/torres fight, the way they have come back and won a few of these games, and keith sticking up for mayers are all reasons to think this road trip may be what this team needed. You hold on making a trade...for now.....but even then don't expect much. - UnnamedSource
I'm not advocating making a trade now, I'm just saying its better to make a deal now than during a losing streak. I'm willing to deal almost anyone if it makes the team better overall. I've said before, the way the team is playing its hard to say they need anything. But I would like to see a 4th lie veteran centre to help with defensive draws and the PK.

Coincidence that "The Grapes of Wrath" (the movie, not the documentary about hemorrhoids) was just on TCM last night? |

As far as the never ending Hawks are/are not physical enough to win a Cup, here are my thoughts. I thought the Hawks biggest weaknesses/question marks coming into this year were goaltending, special teams and overall team defense. So far aside from the power play which still needs to get better I've been really impressed with the goalies, the PK and the team defense (blocking shots, hitting more, not playing lazy defense, etc). Not being physical enough was way down on my list.
That being said I think this years Hawks are the most physical Hawks team since the Cup team. The 75'-76' Flyers they are not but with guys like Mayers, Bollig, Carcillo, Shaw, Brookbank and Bickell, they've been playing a more physical game then in past years. Would I like to see another sandpaper guy added that could add grit to the bottom 6 or on defense, sure. Do I think not getting one will prevent the Hawks from winning a Cup, absolutely not. What people forget about the 11' Bruins and last year's Kings is that each team had the best goalie come playoff time and that's the main reason they won the Cup. Put any other goalie besides Thomas on that Boston team and Vancouver wins that series in 5 games or less. The Kings without Quick last year wouldn't have gotten past the Blues in rd 2.
I know everyone loves gritty grinder role players and I will acknowledge that they do contribute to a Cup team but Cups are not won without stars. If I'm Bowman this year, I'm looking to go all in and add another big gun or two, not 4th liners because they hit hard.

I would love to see a forward with the same heart as Shaw just 4" taller and 30Lbs heavier. |

Cool. Great book and movie. The dust bowl era, possible because it was almost entirely man made, is one of the least recognized disasters in US history. |

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for improving the team but I look at how insane and ridiculous peoples' reactions were last year when Nashville acquired Paul Gaustad. You would've thought they acquired Stevie Y in his prime. Best thing they can do is get a real #2 center and bump Bolland back down to the 3rd line center. That's where I want him come playoff time. |

Excellent book about the Dust Bowl a couple of years ago - "The Worst Hard Time" - and Ken Burns' documentary on PBS a couple of months ago.
Frightening, frightening, and, yes, almost completely man-caused. |

Would rather have Iginla. I'm guessing he would be available too. That dude would solve some problems in a Cup run. |

"If" is not even a question with Calgary, they are in the same toilet bowl as Columbus, only with far fewer prospects to crawl out with.
And Stan the Accountant will not be cutting cheques to Alex Tanguay for $3.5M for the next 3 years. He"ll let Jay Feaster do that.
