Cap considerations > Merit

THIS is just another reason why I hate the cap.

Is Rinaldo subject to waivers? I'd rather have him sent down over McGinn (no offense to Zac). Waive Shelley also?

Are Gus and Manning due for one way contracts next year?
- jstross

Depends on how Gus plays this year and I doubt Manning will get one. He's played 4 NHL games and probably won't add to that this year barring injury.

Cool than I'd be for sending him to ADK if it meant keeping McGinn. Zac's played fine but Tye's played better. Sestito can fill the role anywho.

Moat might like this

Jimmy Lodge ( Saginaw Spirit, Left Wing) - is from Downingtown, PA and is now ranked 9th in the NHL Central Scouting draft rankings.

this article has a brief write-up on him.

Rinaldo has been a constant spark in the lineup night in and night out. Not sure i would send him down. I wonder what that would do to his confidence/pysche?

I also dont want to see Mcginn go either. I would rather see one of the older guys on the down side of his career go.

With the trade of Timmy Thomas is it a realistic dream to think a financially strapped organization would trade for Pronger to take on his cap hit or is it impossible to trade for a hurt player. I think I know the answer to this.

Wouldn't mind Shelley being waived. Healthy lines something like:

19-28-48
24-14-93
15-10-17
36/26-27-32/9

Or close to it.

McGinn should remain in the lineup once everyone is healthy. He's one of the best 12 forwards. Having one of Sestito/Rinaldo as a healthy scratch isn't a huge issue. It's not like they are developing young players that need to play. We know what they are.

Pronger would be much more of a cap commitment than Thomas, given how many years are left on his deal. Seems unlikely as of now.

Pronger can be traded, so long as he agrees to waive his NMC and the other team agrees to accept his injury status.

Thomas has a big advantage over Pronger. He's suspended and not getting paid a red cent. Pronger still gets paid.

Maybe they traded him for a 5th rounder.

The other thing Timmy has over him is that his contract can continue to be used as a cap hit year after year until he retires or shows up for a game. Loop hole?

Anyone here bummed the Flyers didn't take a look at Ellerby?

They can toll his contract to the following season if he doesn't show.If he doesn't show up next season, lather, rinse, repeat.

Dont you think a 5th round pick is a bit low for him though?
- jak521

Absolutely it's low. They basically said, "We're done with him. Give us ANYTHING and he's yours."

Rinaldo can play on more than just the 4th line. Although they are both physical players Zac brings more to the table and deserves regular ice time.

Thank god you included that bit. For a second there I actually thought he had thimble sized lungs. Poor fella
- jak521

And as we all know, thimble sized lungs are much more likely to "wear down" over the course of the season. Especially if it is chronic thimblesizedness.

Think Zac should stay too.

Mcginn is going to be slightly overrated here because he is centered by the best playmaker in the league.

If McGinn is so good, i would prefer to see Knuble or Sestito or even Talbot sit. I don't like ridding the team of heart, passion and fearlessness, which is what I see with Zac.

McGinn isn't a big prospect or anything, he's only playing on the first line out of necessity due to injury. He plays a similar style to Simmonds, and Hartnell but lacks the scoring touch and skill of those guys. He's playing with Giroux to try and create space, and win some puck battles. He's done a nice job doing both.

I am more for Sestito being healthy scratch and maybe trading/demoting Fedetenko with Mcginn and Zac bieng in the lineup consistently.

Injured players have been traded in the past. The other team just has to be aware of it and accept that he's injured.
