chasing tail....my days are behind me... - big_dion
Ah the good old days, now I am lucky if the wife didn't use the headache excuse for a change and she's lucky if I don't use hockey as an excuse to hit the bar.
It seems bizaree to me that in Toronto, the so called hockey capital of the world, you have the worst media, the worst writers and the worst , least intelligent fans (generally, not speaking of anyone specific here ) the whole Kessel narrative is just the latest example of unprecidented stupidity.
The so called rumours are coming from a Damian Cox atrocity and the fact that NHL gms routinly call the team of slumping players with lowball offers.
Ironically, in this long scoring slump, Kessel has actually appeared to play both ends of the rink, go to the corners and play along the boards. Basically he is doing what 24 year old stars tend to do: mature.
His reputiation as a "perimetre" player is perpetrated by people who repeat what they hear and assume its true. If Kessel played a game in a different jersey and you made Augello, Simmons or Cox watch him specifically, they would be like "who is that guy" because how Kessel plays and how the media represents him are not the same.
Dave Nonis is fully away that Kessel is his best player but also that no one in the entire franchise has his potential either. What is Kessels potention? Art Ross.
It would be stupid of the Leafs to move him before seeing what he can do on a good team that demands some of the best defensive players of the opposition to cover other players besides Kessel. Before they get him a centre. before they have an elite puck moving Defensemen.
HE IS ONLY 24.
Take this to the bank: Dave Nonnis will resign Kessel and eventually I will be a more respected writer than either of the chumps I mentioned in this piece.

I may be one of the worst, least intelligent fans, but I can define ironic, and I can spell perimeter.

the rumours were furthered by Nonis in Monday's pregame interview when he was asked about resigning Kessel and Phaneuf next summer and his answer was the equivalent of , to praphrase, "maybe, maybe not."

With the season being less than 25% complete, decisions about trading would be UFA’s like Connolly, Clarke MacArthur and Tyler Bozak are at least a month away, but the state of Kessel’s contract and new ownership’s willingness to spend big money to retain him for years to come has to be factored in when discussing the possibility of a trade. - mikeinbuffalo
Do we really have to make a decision on trading Connolly?
I would help you purchase if this trade did happen - Garnie
Put your money where your mouth is. lol
I do have a good feeling about Nonis though, he seems rational, patient and has a plan.
So here is to making the best trades by this trade deadline and erasing Burke's sloppy fingerprint smudges all over this organization. Don't get me wrong, I ain't a Burke's hater, he's done as much good to this team as the bad. Hockey might not be have been his true destiny.
He is poised better to be an important TV figure like I don't know, Dr. Phil or Stevo?
