Let's just say your right for a second....ok'
I'll give you everything your saying but you used the first pairing thing to get out of your argument. You agree Phaneuf would arguably be on those teams number one PAIRING just not that teams number one DMAN....Right?

So Phaneuf is on those teams top pair....What coach or team would put a guy with zero hockey sense and that brutal of a defenceman on their number one paring?
If he has no hockey sense and is as brutal as you say he's not a number one pairing defenceman in this league.

- tmlfan17

Phaneuf, at his absolute best, might be good enough to play on the top pairing of some of those teams. But it depends on a lot of things. If you put Phaneuf with Karlsson, it's a disaster waiting to happen. So no, Phaneuf would not be a 1st pairing defender with Ottawa. Probably wouldn't make sense in San Jose either. Or even with Pittsburgh. And a few others too.

Phaneuf has zero hockey IQ so that means you can't put him with an offensive defender because then Phaneuf would be making a bunch of mistakes and can't cover for his partner either. Phaneuf could only really play on the top pairing with guys like Doughty, Chara, Weber or Keith etc. But again, some of those teams have a better defensive compliment than Phaneuf like Seabrook and Seidenberg. Where does that put Phaneuf? Most of the time, that puts him on the 2nd pairing as the #3 guy, unless you have a #1 defender who can cover up for Phaneuf's mistakes.

Further edit: Bruins game vs. Tampa has been moved to 7 pm on Saturday.

The Massachusetts governor has banned all motor vehicle travel as of 4 pm today. They could get up to 3 feet of snow in Boston.

3 feet!

I can't see how you can even play at 7 pm if that happens.

The pictures of the storm here on Sunday night should be impressive. Hope all are safe.

If Phaneuf actually had a defence partner like a Duncan Keith or Ryan Suter....You think he might look a little better than playing beside Mike Kotska or Carl Gunnarson....Just asking? You didn't answer that question.
Phaneuf's reality is he plays 27 minutes a night with Mike Kotska.
On the teams that Phaneuf has been on the last 4 years would Duncan Keith be as good on this Leaf team as he has been on Chicago....?
Please answer these are relevant questions toask when discussing Phaneuf's worth

- tmlfan17

IMO Phaneuf is a number 1B defenceman. Meaning he needs someone of his caliber to hit his ceiling - unlike someone like Weber/Chara/Pronger/Lidstrom who could do it all on their own. Imagine if Phaneuf was playing with Stall/Suter/J.Johnson - He'd be top 10 in the league in quality defenceman.Mike Kostka is not going to cut it. I also don't think we should trade him. Include a defenceman in a Kessel trade and sign Corey
Perry in the off-season. Done!

If Phaneuf had a Norris winner to cover up all his mistakes, yeah, he probably would be better. But that's why Phaneuf is a #2 defender at best and probably a #3 defender and not a #1 or a Norris winner. Because he's too damn stupid to reduce his amount of mistakes by himself.

Phaneuf's reality is exactly as I said earlier; he's playing over his head. He's in a role he got by default. Just like Bozak is a #1 center by default, Phaneuf is a #1 defender by default. He's not suppose to play 27 minutes a night because he's not good enough to play 27 minutes a night. But he's doing it because there is nobody else there.

Perry > Kessel

You don't think a team like say Colorado would trade Eric Johnson and a first for Kessel? haha maybe not - but one can dream.

I said he's inconsistent. He has one big game then disappears for three. Reading what is actually written would go a long way for you.

Also ready to hear how Kadri is a bust, Frattin will never crack the top 6, Reilly is a terrible pick.....
You said these things now own em and explain, do you still feel this way or has time once again proven your full of poop ala Johnny Mithcell, Robbie Earl, Justin Pogge, Anton Stralman. Yo never acknowledge these statements you just pile on to the next idiotic present day argument....Except the we remember your idiotic rants and you look like a (frank)ing goof.

Your getting all this from his 2 years in the league as welll as considering his injuries.....By that logic you'd also need to say that when his team makes the playoffs he'll be one of the best layoff performers ever because look at his goal per game stats in the playoffs

You mean you hope Colborne wakes up one day with talent?

Kdari isn't turning anything around. He was suppose to go back to the OHL and spend time in the AHL and it did him good. He would only be turning it around if he completely sucked and suddenly became amazing. That was never the case. It was just a matter of proper player development.

I wouldn't say that Kadri is turning it around.

I'd just say he is developing nicely.
