Gunnarsson is good at his job which is a 2nd pairing defender. And that's where Phaneuf belongs. Maybe, at his best, with a true #1 defender, Phaneuf could be a good #2.

The point being, Phaneuf, as a #1 defender, doesn't work. He is crap at that job because he is in over his head. Again, much like Bozak would be a decent 3rd liner but he's a horrible 1st liner. Phaneuf gets the playing time he gets by default, not because he's actually good at being a #1 defender. By the same token, if you gave Gunnarsson #1 ice time, he'd get killed because it's far beyond his capabilities.

- Two_For_Truth

Phaneuf is a number one pairing defenseman he has never had a number 2 to play with since he's been in Toronto..
Name 10 teams that wouldn't have Phaneuf on their number one pairing. If you can't there's still 20 teams. He's a number one pairing guy...You don't know poop

Boston, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Nashville, Ottawa, New York, San Jose, Vancouver, St. Louis, Winnipeg, Florida and Minnesota would all not use Phaneuf as the #1 defender.

But, by your logic, if he's good enough to be #1 in ice-time on the next 17 teams, he's still a legit #1 defender? Even though he almost zero hockey IQ?

Right.

Phaneuf didn't work to get hockey IQ, he was just born with none.

I would consider it since there's 30 teams and every team would need a number on pairing defenceman.
Phaneuf is on the number one pairing in Boston w/ Chara
He's probably also on the number one pairing in Chicago with Keith - Close Seabrook is good.
He'd be on the numbe rone pairing in Pitt w/ Letang
He'd be on the number one paiing in STL w/ Petro
He'd be on the number one pairing in Ottawa with Karlsson
He'd be on the number one pairing in Florida
He'd be on the number one pairing in Winnipeg - your high if you don't think so
Every team you listed he'd be arguably be on the number one pairing...
If you put him w/ Chara, Weber, Keith, Karlsson, Petroangelo don't you think he'd look a little better than playing with those guys as compared to Kotska or Gunnarson?
Alll you read is stats and never put anything into perspective.

Which is irrelevant because I originally said Phaneuf, with a good enough partner, is a #2. I'm talking about being a #1 on a contender and he got confused and thought I was talking about pairings.

Possibly the worst movie ever.

Two scenes really stand out: a bad guy takes Bruce Willis into the back alley to whack him. But rather than shooting him in the head, he allows Willis to crack jokes for two minutes, and then laughs so hard that Willis is able to kill him.

And then the scene where Damon Wayans, with a bullet wound, can throw a perfect spiral pass while galloping on a horse to hit a guy with a football sitting in a luxury box.

Yeah, OK.

I also particularly liked how a receiver shoots a couple of guys, and then commits suicide in the end zone, and there is football the next week. No big deal.

No, but he does have less physical ability and natural talent which is pretty much the only thing Phaneuf is surviving on.
