Sundin was a force everynight.. I don't recall any 10 games scoring droughts to start a season.. Kessel wasn't all that defensively sound tonight.

Not to start a season, but he had his stretches in his last few seasons where he wasn't scoring. He was still playing responsibly on both ends of the ice though and that's what Kessel has been doing. I'm not saying Kessel is the new Sundin but he's the best offensive player we've had since Mats and we should cut him some slack.

This isn't a valid argument anymore. He's been playing responsible defensive hockey and still getting his assists. I don't remember anyone giving Sundin a hard time when he was putting up a bunch of assists during his goal droughts.

What I said was not comparing Kessel to Sundin.

People need to realize that you can say two players names in the same sentence without saying they're equals. That's one of the most annoying things about this place.

Furthermore, he could just as easily have 6+ goals right now...just a very unlucky start to the season.
Anyone who has watched the first 11 games can easily tell that Kessel is the Leafs best player and even without a goal in the first 10 games, he was the best player on the ice for many of those games.

I am.

He's not a leader. He's defense is improving, but still marginal. He's not tough what so ever. He disappears for numerous games at a time. He's doesn't hit.
He's easily neutralized. He's easily intimidated. He's a threat to walk FOR NOTHING. He's certainly not worth $7M+ which is what he'll be asking for next contract. He's a complimentary player, not a cornerstone type player.

Yes, trade him.
