For philly or for CBJ?
also -Carter had contract certainty - good cap number, underpaid actually, for the rest of his career.
Kessel's gonna get MINIMUM $6.5M for 5+years - Big_Lightnin

Nobody wanted Carter's deal, LA is paying him until he's 60 years old. Kessel's contract situation is actually much more desirable for a team, and he's a better and younger than Carter was when he was traded. |

He's great at faceoffs. That's about it. He doesn't play well defensively, he has no size, I don't give a crap if he gives it his all every shift, and the chemistry thing is crap. He wouldn't look good on the 3rd line - he has no grit.
The Leafs could replace Komarov with 3 other players from the Marlies tomorrow, and you wouldn't notice the difference.
I don't feel like I even need to address this one.
I get that we can't have a team of Mike Richards.
But you don't need role players that pecialize in an aspect of the game - that's the point that Leafs fans need to realize. I don't want Linus Omark on the team.
If you are going to have role players, you need guys who can do 10 things at an average to above average level.
And you need to stop worshiping guys who are good at backhands on penalty shots in away games during shootouts on Tuesdays. - Atomic Wedgie
disagree on bozak, agree on Komarov, you definitely don't, and the specialists I'm talking about do one thing great, and a bunch of things at an average level. |

Either way Carter got a good return, and in my opinion Kessel is worth more at this point. |

I like the Carter comparison.
If we could land a decent top six who`s under 25(or even a dman) as well as a pick that ends up top 10 I`d be happy.
I wouldn`t actually mind seeing a big Dman come back, as moving Keith Aulie set us back a fair bit.
The hard thing is imaging trading him intra-conference - AngryWhiteMale
A decent top 6 and a high draft pick for a potential superstar? Why do we always care more about the trades than the product. Where do we get our 30 - 40 goal scorer. We replace him with a couple 20 goal scorers?
Mac and Kulemin for Kessel? would you make that trade? Cause that is what you are suggesting. There is Never a sure thing that a top 10 pick turns into a top NHL'er, most likely they become a second or third line guy. It gets even less beyond the 10 spot picks. |

Why are you constantly in these threads? Jw
Johnson was highly touted when he was traded and a former top pick, play it off as nothing but Carter's contract was also terrible overall. What does Columbus' drafting have to do with ANYTHING? lol |

I'm not even really for trading Kessel, unless like was stated in the blog, Toronto can get a boatload back for him, and i'm not convinced of that. A good return? Sure, but a great one? I don't know. |

he's signed till he's 37. the last 3 yrs are $3M, $2M, $2M. Cap hit $5.2M. the only risk is injury, and then it's insurance anyway. |

It's still a BAD contract, but it did work out for LA. Never denied that. |
