Very true. Detroit rules as far as scouts go in Europe.

I can promise you that Shero will not find talented Euro's late in the draft. |

We always blow our picks when it comes to euros in the late rounds.
Do you think that kid Oskar Sundqvist will pan out? And Anton Zlobin (the one who loves Ovi)?

Outside of our own roster who is the last big name or borderline big name free agent shero has gotten to come here? |

I don't think it matters. With 87, 71, 18, and 58, you don't need any big name free agents.
And technically, both Martin and Michalek were big name free agents. |

You can't answer his question with 3 more questions. |

Strange. Maybe they need his salary to make the cap floor because they're about to trade Tavares for Kennedy, Tangradi and Jeffrey. |

Truthfully, Shero hasn't brough in a single big-name or borderline big-name free agent that wasn't well past his prime. But in all fairness, when you have guys like Crosby, Malkin, Staal, Fleury, Letang, Gonchar, and Neal UFA signings are going to be more for complimentary players than big-name guys.
I know Shero went after Parise and Suter, but other than Hossa I really can't think of any big-name UFA he pursued competitively (ie, in terms of dollars and years). He more or less looked into the market to see what was what & went from there. |

There should be no reason for them to give up that level pick if he didn't tell them he would play this year prior to the acquisition
Edit- I heard it is a conditional second in 2014 or 2015, but still thats not the smartest of moves |

I just read it was a cap floor issue. Not sure if it's true, but you'd think they'd bring in someone.....anyone that could possibly help their team instead of a guy that is literally refusing to play. Strange indeed. |

It's prefect. They don't have to give up a roster player or shake anything up in the net to make room for him and the conditional pick is probably based on if he actually ever plays for the Islanders. They comply with the cap for 2013--in a shady way--and he never has to show up to get fitted for gear. |

It's like circumventing the cap in reverse. |

and potentially for more than a year....
from tsn.ca
"The move puts the Islanders above the cap floor and the team can choose to toll the contract so they can keep using the cap hit in perpetuity if Thomas doesn't come back, or just let his contract expire at the end of the season." |

Actually, now that I think about, it's pretty genius since Thomas isn't really collecting salary. Still works for cap purposes, but Wang isn't parting with any green. Plus, I doubt Thomas ever plays for them and he won't have to part with that pick.
What a cheesy move for their fans. I'm sure Bob Nutting (Pirates Owner) is taking notes. |
