price got his "bridge" contract coming off a bad year where halak was probably the better goalie, and pacioretty got his before he broke out also.
subban is treated as the 2nd coming of christ in montreal, if the franchise was sure that he was as good as most fans seem to think he is, they wouldn't have hesitated to give him his money on a long term deal.
not the same situation. - sensarmy_11
I think the only concern about Subban is with his ego, not his talent. |

I'd look at Smith or O'Brien from OTT for EDM. I don't see EDM going out making a big splash just yet. Otherwise in NYI, I think Nelson makes sense. - deks1
smith is solid, very good bottom six player. good on his own end, physical, and can chip in offensively.
if you want o'brien, he's all yours. lol. do you have some spare gatorade bottles. |

i think the concern with subban is his ability to be a complete d-man, and not just somebody with a big shot and an even bigger mouth. |

Well, he got more than a big shot. He arrived in the league for the playoffs. Since his arrival in the league, he has been used as a 1D and responded with good numbers. |

That was my point. His offensive numbers are okay, but questions still remain about his ability to play in his own zone. Can he be a complete player, or will he just be another mike green (with a little less offense) |

And we have to include our 1st rounder....
With landeskog, downie, wilson and ROR not playing, thats pretty much a top 5 pick.
And we get...
Bozak: whos a UFA
Kessel: whos a UFA next year
And the almighty 2nd rounder.
So in 2 years, the trade could possibly be...
To Col: the player drafted in the 2nd round
To Tor: O'Reilly
Drouin? Mackinnon? Jones? |

He is getting better in his defensive game but still has a long way to go. |

His trade offer wasn't that bad. Bozak would be a good 2nd or 3rd line center, and kessel would be real good on duchesne's wing. I also think they'd both end up resigning, would be a nice change for them, not being criticized every minute by the toronto media.
It was much more reasonable then the insane offers from that habs fan

"* It is definitely odd to see a player who asked for a trade see his trade value rising, but that does appear to be the case with Roberto Luongo in Vancouver as Luongo plays solid, consistent hockey for the Canucks. More and more teams have been getting involved in this, and there certainly is some traction to the the Florida and Stephen Weiss rumors. I wouldn't say anything is all that close to happening however."

Mike Green is a guy who scored 31 goals in 68 games. Is Green much better at getting points while being a total liability defensively? Yes. Is he going to be traded after the Penguins tune up the Captals tonight on national tv? Probably.
PK is much more like Michael Del Zotto if you're looking for a contemporary comparison but without the professional demeanor. |

Why in the world would the AVS want to risk "potential re-signing" for 2 players, of which they own the rights for the next 4-7 years.
There is no way the avs are trading their 1st this year unless its for another young player or a player signed to a long term contract....let alone adding ROR to it. |

I wasn't saying "do it", i was saying that it isn't that bad. Besides, if you get kessel and bozak in your lineup, plus landeskog comes back, i HIGHlY doubt colorado is anywhere near a top 5 pick. Hell, they might even be able to push for a playoff spot. |

Bozak, a 2nd rounder in the 31-37 overall range, Hamilton, and Seguin probably does seem more fair if you got O'Reilly and a presumed top 5 first rounder instead of just Phil Kessel. |

Personally, id rather just keep the 1st rounder.
with so many injuries, and some highly touted top players in the draft...it would make sense.
At this point, any UFA and soon-to-be UFAs would be a really bad mismanagement of assets on Colorado's part. Its in their best interest to just wait out the shortened season before trading any 1st round picks. |
