Wow Vantel, you traded Giroux for Benn?!?
- Nucker101

Do you think Phi supporting cast will make the playoffs this year?

No D. Weak offense nd suspect goalie. I don't see Flyers scoring alot , and I do see Benn getting alot of hits.

Does he? I guess that depends on your definition of "the job". Every year he butchers at least one series in the post season with his horsesh!t reactionary game planning & inability to give the players continuity as far as lines/pairings/which goaltender should play. Anyone could stack Presidents Trophies with this roster.

I'll never understand how people continue to be impressed by his regular season results... Where having a "system" trumps the ability to prepare for a particular opponent. NOT the case in a 7 game series.

- DrChristianTroy

I think the biggest knocks on AV arethat he discriminates against young players/rookies, but that's the same with most coaches. And it's not like he has Ebbet centering the second line over Schroeder. If the rookie outplays the veteran then he'll get his minutes, but it's hard to gain your locker room's respect when you just give rookies minutes over proven veterans just because their younger. The other knock is the handing of the defense, but I believe that Bowness has just as much of a say, if not more on what goes on there. I don't buy the whole, "anyone could win multiple President's Trophies with this roster" argument. There are plenty of teams that are just as talented, and even more complete than the Canucks. Look at the Capitals, Bruins, Kings, Rangers, Flyers, Penguins, Blues and Sharks, are the Canucks far and away more talented than those teams? In fact the regular season is a bigger sample size than the playoffs, which is basically a tournament and where staying healthy, getting hot and getting a few calls/bounces go your way can take any team a long way.

I'm not a big AV fan myself, but he's not the horrible coach that he's made out to be. I know it's the trendy thing to do in Vancouver, but IMO he's not a major reason for why the Canucks haven't won a cup in recent years.

I said he was a great coach it doesn't mean I like him but we have to support who we have. The blame totally can't be put on him. Rick B has been with them from the start? I am not sold on either but Presidents trophies and a game 7 finals appearance come on. Come on Dr T that doesn't = a firing. In a short season let the players choose. Has he lost the room?

How the (frank) is Lapierre ahead of Marchand? Marchand should be 1 through 10 on that list alone.

I think AV is a great coach we tend to judge him based on the style play of on ice product( sometimes its a yawn). He does get the job done regardless of defence first mentality. That being said a team that is able to slow the game down when it has never been faster is quite a bonus. I personally think we need more goals but right now everywhere they are hard to come by. I may not always like AV or his style but if he truly has the room.. let him run. Goalies are prima donnas if he can make it work with both I will stand for him.

Sorry, was just lurking and then remebered hey I joined this site...so here's a thought about A/V I've had since the beginning...Super nice guy, would love to go for some beers and hear his war stories etc. but truth be told, he has been out coached every friggin playoff series except 1 (San Jose) since he's coach the Canucks. He can't make an adjustment to save his life. So ya, time for a change, reg season records mean squat.

Adjustments are definitely a weak spot for him, I have to agree with the critics on that one.

The playoffs don't meant poop in this league though, and Giroux is one of the top 5 forwards in hockey. The Flyers have had a lot of issues with defence and goaltending, but I guarantee you that they'll finish top 10 in the league in goals for again, and ahead of Dallas. You could have gotten Benn+ for him, or at least told everyone he was available.

AV is very overrated. He has trouble adjusting on the fly. Our PP is old and everyone knows what is going to happen. It is his staff so I blame him. After three years of getting our asses kicked in the shootout ,he is now and only now paying more attention to it.

When he needs to make adjustments if changing Burrows to or from the Sedins line ,doesn't fix the problem he is lost.

He also has a hard time accepting change ie.Schneider Kassian Hodgson.

He doesn't believe his players when they say they are injured ( Hodgson Kesler Mitchell).

I think a new coach is exactly what this team needs.

I know the playoffs mean poop , but if they are not good enough to score and make the playoffs then having a top guy is worth poop.

I like Benn Jagr and Eriksson to score more points than Giroux Simmonds Read

I also expect Benn to hit more and block more shots and take more penalties. If I thought that Giroux was better choice this year (not last) then I would have not traded him.

Hartnell is still a month away .

I believe the Newell Brown(hired by Gillis, not AV) is in charge of the PP. Bowness is definitely AV's boy though. I'd like to see Gillis at least fire Bowness after this season if this team doesn't deliver when healthy.
