yeah it appears last year was the outlyer year...he has not been good....but that is fine with me
this phx team will not make the playoffs...still can't score and no smith to carry their sorry asses - bogiedoc
I wouldn't write them off yet. Also, we shouldn't judge Smith only by what he's done against the Hawks this year.
Against Chicago 2 games 12 goals allowed
Against everyone else 5 games 8 goals allowed
They could still be a tough first round matchup in a few months. |

Patrick Sharp was wearing Hossa's jacket during post game interview on NHL Network. Love it! - HajdukChicago
I noticed that to but it didn't click until now that it was a little hidden message there. Pretty damn cool if you ask me, this team is really becoming a tight group. |

Torres scores...looked like Leddy took a puck in the face right before the goal.... - philco28
Hopefully Leddy is okay, that looked like it hurt ! |

Sharp can't carry Hoss's jock. He shouldn't even be wearing his jacket.
I'm starting to sour on #10, not because he seems to only hit the post but because he can't pass and he seems allergic to the ice inside his teams' blue line. |

Nope, but with the money he is getting from his new contract he can certainly hire someone to do it for him |

Hahahahahahahaha
Awesome.
He played with some conviction last night and except maybe 1 or 2 silly plays he looked really good.
I am still very concerned about his lack of burst / top end speed though. |

Nicely played.
I used to think his $5.9M cap hit through age 35 could be an issue, now I'm pretty sure of it. |

I still think Hoss should be wearing an A. Granted, Sharp is one of the longer tenured Hawks, but Hoss provides more leadership with a less of a grasp of English than Sharp does.
Then again I'm not in the room so I don't know for sure, just my .02 anyway. |

Without question his best game last night. He's coming around, and he'll keep getting better. Better to hit the post than the pads every time like #2. |

For those obsessed with stats, especially hits, which the Coyotes lead the league they were meaningless in last night’s game. Speed is the most important attribute a team can have, even if it can't be quantified or made into a stat. Phoenix’s hitting may have disrupted the Hawks 3 or 4 times during the whole game last night. Chicago’s speed couldn’t be answered by the Coyotes in any way. And from a fan’s standpoint it would be nice to see a few opposition players devastated by a few big hits, but I much prefer them being devastated by being on the losing side on the scoreboard. |

A neighbour of mine, who writes for a sports publication, showed me some tape as to why Keith keeps shooting into the pads of the opposition. In 2010, Keith used to be allot more active and patient moving the puck quickly into open lanes to makes passes or shots, for the past 2 years he has hurried his shots and passes and he is allot more static standing still trying to force pucks instead of opening up lanes. I'm sure the coaching staff will find this and help him regain what he was doing when he was the best Dman in hockey. |

That's because the 'yotes don't have the team offence - and especially so - team defence (2 rooks dressed last night) to offset a talented 'Hawks team enough physically to really matter.
This is also the regular season and not the playoffs.
When playoff time comes the 'Hawks will be facing better teams. And some of those teams may try to run the 'Hawks out of the building. So if the 'Hawks FO & coaches believe Shaw, Bickell, Carcillo (assuming he's returning 100%), Bollig & Mayers are the answer for the forwards on the physical side, they had better be correct. |

He can also see how Willie did it with Savvy, arguably the best pure playmaker the 'Hawks have ever had. I draw the similarity to that in the 'Hawks can again have that type of combo with Kane feeding DK (on the left side) or Seabs (on the right side).
Anyone who watched Savard, Larmer, Secord line with Wilson and Murray on the points know exactly what I'm talking about. |

I know it's only 11 games in, but this stat is going to be HUGE for the 'Hawks come game #49:
Johnny Oduya TOI/G 22:16
This has helped DK 24:16 and Seabs 24:03 keep their times in check, especially since 5 of the 11 games have gone into extra time. |

Yeah Sharp always has his slumps and then he heats up for a couple games here and there. He has his games like last night where he shines and we all remember why we like the guy. I thought while Saad did a great job drawing several penalties last night he otherwise had a pretty awful game. He had a couple good shifts early on but was giving bad passes all game long. He needs to learn how to properly pass the puck because if he keeps throwing it away like that I'm gonna get sick of him being on the first line real fast. At this point I think Stalberg deserves a shot on the top line and Saad can still get some decent minutes on the third line. |

Two completely different eras. The Hawks defence in those days just stood back and blasted the puck knowing no one on the other team would get in the way of the shots, also teams used their wingers up high to cover the point men opening the slot area. Few were willing to block shots giving defensemen open shooting lanes to the net.
Today many players are willing to block shots taking away lanes that have to be creatively opened.

I think Nick Leddy has really helped this team this year. Last couple of years, when forechecked, he would fall apart. Seems like he has matured and will hold on to the puck and make better decisions. He's veen solid Nd I'm glad the team stuck with him when I wanted to strangle him.., |
