That's the one benefit of this team being in the middle of the pack. The longer they show they don't need Luongo, the better and hopefully he gets moved before Nonis is forced to do something stupid and acquire him.
- Two_For_Truth

I agree!!! We can thank Reimer & Scrivens for their solid play. Leafs biggest problem is scoring. So unless Luongo can play center, he aint coming to TO. Thank goodness.

Maybe none of those things matter and it's just time to trade him and start over.

Or...

Strome, Niederreiter and a 1st for Kessel.

- Two_For_Truth

yesterday i said nieno, griffen and a first

i think asking for strome might be 2 much

also dion 2 Edmonton would work out for both teams

I haven't seen many leaf fans dreaming about Nino.
- Leafland

Well look above your post, many Leaf fans are always making trade proposals involving Nino on here. I personally would rather have Strome.

Yes the goalies have been the best part for the Leafs. Inspite of bad D & a serious lack of scoring.

Niederreiter isn't enough and Reinhart isn't a center. Strome has to be involved.

Can't see Edmonton being too happy about taking Phaneuf even though he is from there. Edmonton has seen what kind of damage he can cause his own team and how crappy of a leader he is.

If Phaneuf gets moved, it probably has to be to a contender that already has undisputed leaders and other guys they can put ahead of Phaneuf.

I'm starting to think Kessel did run over a black cat or walked under a ladder or opened up an umbrella inside. Mabie he pissed off the evil spirit Loki.

The key is the Leafs getting Strome without giving up Kessel. Than worse case scenario come this summer, if Kessel is not interested in re-signing with the Leafs, he's still an asset that can be traded for something valuable.

Strome would be a must simply because Niederreider has lost significant value. He wants out and his NHL stint was dismal. You can't build a deal around a guy like that.

At the absolute lowest, it would have to be Strome and a 1st plus a 2nd or mid level prospect. But that's part of the reason why I included Niederreider; because his value is low enough for him to be the equivalent of a 2nd or a mid level prospect.

the trade would happen before his NTC/NM clause kicks in otherwise your spinnig your wheels. Kessel has vitto power, so the return may not be to good.

Not going to happen. By virtue of trading Kessel though, the Leafs are pretty much guaranteed another great draft pick in a strong draft. So when you think about it, the Leafs would be giving themselves a great opportunity to rebuild by doing so.

Kadri & Frattin have been the best surprises. Komarov add's a dimension the Leafs have been missing since Tucker. JVR adds a dimension the Leafs have been lacking since Dave Andreychuk. So that's 4 good pieces the Leafs have added this season.

So objectiveky trying to understand where your coming from, So basically by trading Kessel & going for a re-build, your telling the Leafs to blow it up, so u may aswell trade the rest of the veterans. This would have to include Lupul. Am I correct?

Sorry, but you have no case to make.

you're probably right, again, I just don't like the Finnish league, I think the talent in that league is lower than the SEL. I know we've had this debate before, I think I brought up Granlund and Jokinen. Its just my preference man. I'm a Lindholm guy, you're a Barkov guy. We can agree to disagree

Then look back five years from now and rehash this discussion like gentlemen.

He wasn't exactly given a chance at the NHL level, even Joe Thorton got more playing time the year he kicked off his career. I like Nino, looks good to me in the A, he'll be a decent player in time. As for Strome, I don't think he has the upside of Kessel, meaning, I don't think Strome will ever be an 70-80 point NHLer.

Well than you may aswell trade Grabbo & Kulemin too. The only untouchables are JVR & the rest of the youngsters.

The point with Neiderreider is his value has taken a hit. If the Leafs can recover Strome, a 1st in a strong draft and additional pieces for Kessel, who chances are is either going to walk for nothing or get overpaid to stay, they would be wise to do so. Just by trading him away, they pretty much lock up another great draft pick position this year. It's not about Strome being an 80 point player and "replacing" Kessel as much as it is about the Leafs getting back to drafting really high for the next year or two while adding some top prospects.

Nobody as ever done what Barkov is doing at the age he is doing it at. He's a guy who is breaking the mold right now and among the youngest in the draft by several months too.
