Kadri & Frattin have been the best surprises. Komarov add's a dimension the Leafs have been missing since Tucker. JVR adds a dimension the Leafs have been lacking since Dave Andreychuk. So that's 4 good pieces the Leafs have added this season.
- GCHonda

All added by Brian Burke. 1 Ontario, 1 Edmonton, 1 Russian, 1 American

More good prospects in the system. Not a lot of GREAT prospects but people that have a chance to get better.

I like what Burke brought to the Leafs. As a lightning rod for the media he took a lot of attention away from his players. Wish he would have had this year to see these young guys earn him his credit.

CGY needs to get something for him if they're to really kick off a quick rebuild

If they could get a player, pick and a prospect for Iggy and Kipper in separate deals and assure they get a top draft pick, then they'll shoot up into EDM territory a lot quicker than most people think

- AngryWhiteMale

They should have done that last year .... The return for iggy won't be as high now

The conspicuous absence of Getzlaf on that roster confirms Ferrarro is, indeed, a product of brain damage.
- Leeman4Gilmour

I know you feel that Getzlaf might be a Leaf one day so it is your duty to defend him to death but he doesn't belong there. Both Crosby and Giroux are both better on the top two scoring lines and Getzlaf is way too slow to be a defensive center. Canada has plenty of guys they could put ahead of Getzlaf.

Depends on what they want that 4th line to be in its role. I still think there might be a place for Iginla but I'll admit he's not the same player he was even a year and a half ago.

Hard to say where Tavares fits on this team. He has the raw talent and power, which will benefit him anywhere

- AngryWhiteMale

Doesn't matter what the role of the 4th line is, Bergeron and J. Staal are both better than Sharp.

Iginla would be 36 years old. Don't think he would be the best choice given how many younger, faster goal scorers Canada has to choose from.

Perhaps,

I think SJ, with the righteous start they've had this year, would be in their right minds to offer up a modest package. Doesn't have to be anything big, but a first and a prospect(Hertl) would probably be enough to make CGY happy. I would push for another first rounder on top of that if they make it to the finals though

The point with Neiderreider is his value has taken a hit. If the Leafs can recover Strome, a 1st in a strong draft and additional pieces for Kessel, who chances are is either going to walk for nothing or get overpaid to stay, they would be wise to do so. Just by trading him away, they pretty much lock up another great draft pick position this year. It's not about Strome being an 80 point player and "replacing" Kessel as much as it is about the Leafs getting back to drafting really high for the next year or two while adding some top prospects.
- Two_For_Truth

Although I agree in theory with the point you are making here. Can you see someone giving a high upside prospect and a potential lottery pick in a strong draft and maybe even adding another pick or top prospect for Kessel? Not to say Kessel is not worth that but the Islanders are not a player away from a cup run. Snow would be crucified for that trade, although I believe he would win it by getting the best player in the deal, and another superstar for Tavares to play with.

It has to do with the fact that this team has such a glut of quality centremen that it's really hard to reject any of the centres that are already on the roster

Jordan Staal.

Yeah I think there's a fit in the Pit for Iggy.

Kipper to CHI would be an option if Crawford slips up by the deadline.

Don't think they can trust Lindback as much as they could trust Kiprusoff, especially if they feel they can catch lightning in a bottle and make a playoff run this year.

More or less my case.

Though it may not be Nagano, it's still international ice, and we'll need some really good skaters if we're to finally win outside of North America

I don't see them leaving him off either. Way too important defensively. Same with Jordan Staal. With the bigger ice, you need speed, passing and guys who can play smart hockey. Puck possession is huge so winning face-offs is key.
