Haven't you noticed they have a media scrum every day and there are a limited number of questions and answers. The reporters all get the same quotes and so who ever drives the scrum drives the days story lines. Rarely does a reporter track down a different player or attempt to change the story from player to player because if it gets off track then there aren't enough quotes to file their story. Happens every day after an off day. Days after games are different. More player availability. They still scrum for quotes.

It amazes me how they all have recorders but the quotes read differently in each story.

It seems to me that the questions are getting dumber and dumber this year too. Seriously... I'd expect stupid questions from Pinotch, but not Lisa and some others...

Something I find disconcerting is the hatred toward Tom Sestito because of his political views. Tom's a Republican and tweeted his support for Mitt Romney during election time and I noticed that a lot of Obama supporting/democratic Flyers' fans can't stand having him on the team because of it. I, personally, don't agree with Sestito but I don't think that should get in the way of my evaluation of him as a hockey player and how he can benefit the team. Been thinking about this since last night so I thought I'd post.

Cannot fault Rinaldo for a possible late punch in that fight. Crombeen was still on one knee and how many times are guys still throwing punches at that point? What if Rinaldo had let up and then had a punch come back his way? Its easy to pick apart a slow-motion replay as opposed to Rinaldo making split second decision to throw another punch. Lecavalier however, purposely threw a late punch to prove a frustrated point

I actually didn't know that before... but if people hate someone because of their political views, their an idiot. Plain and simple. EVERYONE has their own personal views and beliefs. Same with Thomas last year. All he said was that he wasn't going to attend the White House, and made mention of why. Somehow, the media blew it up, and it's Tim's fault he "made a big deal out of it"...

The guy is a player in the business. What matters is what he does on the ice. What he does off the ice, and what he believes, is HIS BUSINESS.. Just like people at work- you do NOT agree with all of them on everything.. that's a fact. But as long as they DO THEIR JOB, that's all they need to do. People need to get the heck over it and stop being babies.

They just want quotes. That's it. The stories spin out of the quotes and that's all they care about. They're pushing lineage and hits.

The reason we all come here is because Bill Meltzer isn't pushing lineage. He's pushing for discussion which means he has to come up with something of actual interest to the readers that will spur conversations on the thread. His opinions and observations build his blog. He doesn't take 4 quotes from two or three players and spin a story around it.

I agree with you on that. Rinaldo was in the heat of the moment while Lecavalier should have been well aware that Talbot was down. Either, hockey gets chippy so i'm not complaining either way.

I agree although I think Thomas should have sucked it up and joined the team. It wasn't about his merits but the team's success as a whole. But that was his choice so what's done is done.

Obviously, Crombeen is on the way down when Rinaldo throws the last punch. I don't think it was egregious or something so awful that people need to be outraged.

- Jsaquella

That's great, but it's not accurate. It's selective.

Crombeen was already down to one knee in a vulnerable position, and Rinaldo keeps punching. Then he falls from one knee to the ice.

We can argue the semantics all day. Just hate to see someone else (Lecavalier) get torched for retaliating in similar fashion. It's hypocritical.

My view of Sestito, in terms of being on the roster or not, has been based on his play. At the start of last season, I was unimpressed. He seemed to be running around and looking for trouble, rather than keeping himself under control and picking spots.

However, he played fairly well later in the season, and was not a liability. In his opportunities this year, he's played solidly again. If he continues to drive the net, provide physicality and avoids stupid penalties there's a spot for him.

As for his political views, simply don't follow him on twitter.

Honestly, the casual fan can't handle half the stuff Bill writes because it makes too much sense and doesn't bash Bryz enough or Carle when he was here.

I have only ever evaluated him from a hockey standpoint. Don't care about who he thinks should be president. We're all entitled to our own beliefs. If I hated everyone I ever had a disagreement with I'd have no friends or family and I would be much more sour on these threads.
